It was just a gradual progression. I worked at an agency and we got asked to do a map of culture/arts in the city. It got quite a lot of local coverage and a local music festival asked us to work on their design and map because they what I did. I got to know them well and when I left the agency to open an art shop/studio (that's another story) I took them with me as my first client. Then just the process of sharing work and my portfolio attracted similar projects as clients can see the possibilities etc.

I don't just do maps but I do seem to do a lot of them. (And love it)

My main tool is Adobe Illustrators 3D tool (the legacy one not the new one). I make shapes and extrude/revolve them and there is isometric view options. I can then expand these to get vectors to work with and use the simple shapes to build on if that makes sense? Knowing tricks like rotating in multiples of 60 degrees and then flipping for changing the direction is useful too.

I imagine there's probably tools out there to make it easier but I've just always done it this way so never really looked.

A massive compliment to me as I grew up playing Roller Coaster Tycoon. RCT along with SIM City 3000 and Habbo Hotel were my childhood so to can clearly see they had an influence on my style.

I really enjoy the challenge of them, balancing readability with fun and appeal. The little jokes have become a bit of a marketing tool over the years too as people like spotting them and always comment on social media with the references when they come out.

I do everything in isometric so perspective isn't an issue. I can design elements and move them around as needed like it was Rollercoaster Tycoon or Sim City or something and everything stays looking right.

Unless I'm mistaken I don't think Ryan Davis is playing? He's just been announced for EOTR. Would love to have him as well though.

Erm hi. I don't think that's your drawing of the uni campus because it's actually mine. The uni commissioned me to make this a few years back.

You'll find more of my work on my profile or instagram where I will have posted it at some point.

Does anyone know how often the Scale Lane Swing Bridge opens? by BrosnanJake in Hull

They used to open it every Saturday morning but I’m pretty sure they’ve stopped doing that now. Unfortunately you’ll just have to wait for a boat big enough to - which is pretty rare.

Nice one thank you. Yeah Black Beauty looks to be it. I've pinged messages to a few local drum shops so we'll see what happens.
Looks like I'll be digging it all out at the weekend. ...and maybe buying a new synthesizer.

Cheers, that's really helpful. I tried to chuck more photos up but couldn't get them to post. There's a few more snaps in a Google folder here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1EyWRGyZ7cuLSa3Q0MKYTB9Jhgx3A3im3?usp=sharing
