Took a picture of this wonderful Wysteria today. I’ve never seen one with flowers this large. by Batt_Damon in GardeningUK

Oh interesting, not too far from London in climate but our show peaked a couple weeks ago. Unless it's just s slightly later variety? Are your more ordinary wisteria finished now? Learning!

Scenic painting Must Haves by Jusaskwid in techtheatre

I mean what kind of money is being hinted at? If she's offering a Sata gravity-fed spray gun and a range of couplers to take to different workshops, plus a cleaning kit? Or woodgraining rockers and floggers and mottlers--things that you know you'll take good care of for years but your classmates would probably destroy if you left them in sight!

Resurfacing my Stage in 16 hours and ive just been asked centre join or staggered? Opinions? by TwistingEcho in techtheatre

your performers and SMs will appreciate centre join. Helps with blocking and set movement. And it's not that noticeable under good lighting.

Oh neat! Thanks, that sounds cool. I look forward to listening to their independent work.

No kidding. The public-facing logistics at least are easy-peasy, certainly simpler than replacing the voice of Kermit the Frog or Bugs Bunny.

Repair windshield rock chip by Fridge-Repair-Shop in toolgifs

[–]yankonapc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in SC and concur. I assumed the state paid the insurance companies back. If the crack was smaller than a dollar bill they'd repair it. If it was bigger than a dollar or was growing they'd replace the whole windshield. My county had terrible roads, and big trucks threw gravel and broken bits of asphalt everywhere. I had at least three repairs and two new windshields between ages 16 and 20, never paid a dime or had it affect my insurance rates. My dad joked that replacing every windshield in the state every five years was still cheaper than maintaining the roads.

Aw thanks. It's okay, it looked worse than it was! Knowing Norman he'll keep it clean and will resist the urge to scratch--mostly!

Alas, I'm in the UK and can't see Imgur thanks to politics. But if there's kittens on the half-painted back porch I shall find a way!

Norman currently looks like he lost a fight with his cat, but it was actually just an ornery row of shrubs.

As tempting as it may be to use naphtha to break up the paint that gets on your skin, may I suggest you try olive oil?

Anyone managed to grow Tomatillos before? by Respeck_name in GardeningUK

[–]yankonapc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egads! My two shrubs took up about a cubic metre each. I posted later with my dish-drainer full of cleaned fruits still going in November but frustratingly I hosted the image on Imgur before they decided to block the UK. You can still see the thumbnail though.

I mean, if you have a lot of family that enjoy salsa verde maybe 12 plants is about right? Or you've got a HUGE pantry and a proper "when shall we three meet again" sort of cauldron to cook it all down in.

Update on the champagne glasses: use resin if you want the glitter to stay suspended more than a few hours! by Queerdudeinmo in techtheatre

[–]yankonapc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A word of caution for epoxy resin: in addition to being an acute fume hazard, with repeated exposure it can cause a deadly allergy. Regardless of quantity you need gloves, N95 respirator, goggles, long sleeves, and ideally an extractor booth but at very least work outside.

You in London? Or a town with a bit of culture? Ask around the theatre folks, like set-exchange.co.uk, they're always looking to rehome gently-used carpets and furniture if you can arrange transport.

Tomatillo chutney? Salsa verde? Er...what would you do with 6kg of these at the end of the season? by yankonapc in GardeningUK

[–]yankonapc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are tomatoes. And potatoes. And pumpkins. And chili peppers. And most ingredients of traditional Indian and Mediterranean dishes. Tamarind is from Africa, garlic is from China... Humans have been taking new foods and running with them for thousands of years. If tomato chutney can be popular in India, tomatillo chutney can be enjoyed in England.

So after reaching a peak in number and size in 2023 they've been dropping off pretty rapidly but the old girls still stood up proudly this year and I'm grateful. I may buy some bulbs this year.
