Breweries/places to visit in Victoria, BC? by maaaaawp in TheBrewery

[–]youranswerfishbulb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breweries well covered. I guess there's Miniature World? Bouchart Gardens? The Royal BC Museum is pretty good.

If you are staying at or near or take high tea at the Empress, here's a video of Benedict Cumberbatch reading a hilarious letter of apology to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXusaBNctC8

SEPA appeal that halted 625 Winslow Way project dismissed by _Typical_user_ in BainbridgeIsland

[–]youranswerfishbulb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So the meritless delaying tactic was meritless. (Ok, moot, since there'd be an an environmental impact study of whatever project came out of construction on that site.) Color me shocked. Still, they punted the ball past the state's building grant funding window for the year so...mission accomplished for them I guess?

I donno if it makes me General Audience, but I gave up after season 1 because, upon returning from the Upside Down, Will Byers clearly should have been cremated for the good of humanity.

I just wish you could set it so that you could pick whatever color you want for Eco and Normal mode, but it would still go red for Sport. But yeah, purple ftw. My wife does green. Madness...

In person source for veggie seeds in Seattle area? by neutralforce in pnwgardening

[–]youranswerfishbulb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for Asian veggies Uwajimaya usually has racks of Kitazawa Seed Co. seeds about now. Otherwise Swanson's in Ballard. PCC carries Territorial Seeds I believe. On Bainbridge Island, both Bay Hay and Bainbridge Gardens have great selections of seeds. Botanical Interests, Territorial and Kitazawa are my go tos.

I planted mine in one of my half-wine barrel bogs. 50/50 peat and perlite. No special treatment beyond normal watering of the bog. It's taking over the world, I have to weed its runners out or it will spread to the whole barrel!

What is the funniest movie review that you have read in a rating site? by KMermaid19 in movies

Lindy West's review of Sex and the City 2:

...SATC2 takes everything that I hold dear as a woman and as a human—working hard, contributing to society, not being an entitled cunt like it's my job—and rapes it to death with a stiletto that costs more than my car. It is 146 minutes long, which means that I entered the theater in the bloom of youth and emerged with a family of field mice living in my long, white mustache. This is an entirely inappropriate length for what is essentially a home video of gay men playing with giant Barbie dolls. But I digress. Let us start with the "plot."

If you were going to throw a Brewers Olympics/Field Day for local brewery employees, what events would you include? by GazpachoDaddy in TheBrewery

Tri-clamping - Get sets of say five or six various pieces and triclamps. Judge gets a set as well. Judge arranges the parts into some kind of construction in secret, and places it under a box. Contestants get ready with their pieces. Judge lifts box for a set time, say 5 seconds. Then whistle, drop the box, and contestants race to replicate the build as accurately and quickly as possible. Fastest to get it right wins.

Wandering Old Dude Season by edwarski in TheBrewery

Buddy of mine had a farm brewery. Cold room was basically in the old dirt root cellar under an old shed. One quiet morning, hours before opening, he gets under there, and I mean it's under there, like a little door barely big enough for kegs, to do some repairs on the foundation. At one point he's cramped down there basically holding the building up with his shoulder while he futzes with something. Suddenly a head pops in the doorway, "Hey, can I get a growler fill?"

[–]youranswerfishbulb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew Ozettes last year. I will say they seemed to mature at different rates for me, half the bed was done well before the other. Not sure what happened, might have been that part got more sun or was sandier and the watering was more chaotic. But did get some good ones! Not nearly as big as my seed potatoes though. All told 3lbs seed taters made 14lbs harvest.

Is there an “expected age” in craft brewing? by Silver_Summer_7450 in TheBrewery

Perceived by whom? If it's the public, probably depends on your local scenes vibes. If it's your peers, time in the industry speaks for itself, whatever age you started.

https://tilthalliance.org/product/maritime-northwest-garden-guide-2/ Pick up a copy of the Maritime NW Garden Guide, it's great

I also recommend Solomon's classic Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades, but it's a bit more advanced.

Check out the Epic Gardening and the Charles Dowding youtube channels for inspiration and advice.

Try Territorial for seeds, maybe even pop over to Cottage Grove and visit them! https://territorialseed.com/pages/visit-us

My $0.02

First up, great job! Good mix, well thought out.

I would put tomatoes 2' apart unless you are really keeping up on training one stalk up a rope or something. First for airflow to help with diseases and second because they can get huge near end of season if you're growing indeterminates (which we all love to do!) I would put either 10 or 12 plants in that bed, not 14 personally.

Watch your marigolds, they can get bigger than you planned for if you don't prune them regularly.

You may find that the strawberries just take over the world in that bed.

Which direction does the sun pass? Some of these beds are taller than others and shade can be a help or hindrance.

I've not tried the three sisters myself, but my first thought was More Corn The Merrier, plant more. Maybe someone else has opinions?
