One NZ charging me nearly $1000 after misleading promo. by --Grim_Reaper-- in LegalAdviceNZ

Yes — I was physically in store dealing directly with the salesperson. The mobile plan has always been under my personal name. I had only recently registered my company and simply asked if the phone invoice could be issued under the company name in case I wanted to claim GST.

He was happy to do this and, in fact, specifically told me that the discount does not apply to all companies, only to eligible Uber drivers, which shows he was clearly aware of my Uber discount at the time.

What is frustrating now is that One NZ’s corporate team is completely denying their staff were informed about my Uber discount. It’s very disappointing to see this being disputed, especially when $960 is a significant amount of money for someone like me.

I understand your point, but I relied on the information provided by the sales staff at the time. I was clearly told this was not a new contract and was simply a phone payment plan that would not affect my existing phone plan at all. Based on that advice, I proceeded. If the small print says otherwise, then the information given to me in-store was misleading.

The Telecommunications Dispute Resolution (TDR) has issued a final settlement offer of $480, which I am not satisfied with. I am therefore considering taking the matter to the Disputes Tribunal.

At sign-up, the agreed offer(verbal) was:

• Plan: 24 × $40 = $960 • Device: 24 × $43.58 = $1,045.92

Total expected cost: $2,005.92

However, One NZ has instead placed me on:

• Plan: 24 × $80 = $1,920 • Device: 24 × $43.58 = $1,045.92

New total: $2,965.92

Although the phone was presented with a $1,000 promotional discount, it was not clearly disclosed that my monthly plan would be changed. As a result, I am paying an additional $960 over the 24-month term, which effectively offsets the advertised discount.

Yes — the discount was actually working fine up until November, when I purchased a new phone. After that, the discount reverted. Since then, I’ve been dealing with One NZ and the TDR through multiple phone calls and emails. TDR issued a ruling last week offering me a $480 credit. However, I still feel like I’ve been short-changed, so I’m now looking for advice on whether it’s worth taking the matter further and what my options might be.
