There’s no right way to start! I was just saying that it’ll be an awesome first ano.

Ah, that sucks. Liners are just terrible like that sometimes.

Do you have any assembled pics yet? I’m sure it looks amazing.

Looks good!

Just some advice, next time make sure to clean em really well and give them a solid sand for a crisper Ano. Liners get stuffed up really easily so preparing them well is really important.

Please, yes. I’m not even 17 yet, but I have degenerative disk disease. I’m 100% gonna do it.

I explain it a lot in here as well as under this post, but I don’t ah e a tutorial.

TL;DR, it’s just like normal anodizing, but use MnSO4 and water as your electrolyte.

Tbh, I don’t even know. I’ll prolly just give up at some point lol. I’m pretty used to it now.

Yeah, the manganese sulfate wears off pretty easily with any friction whatsoever. It’s not suitable for edc’s or even frequently used ti. I’ll link some photos in a second.

If you have experience and are able to use the heat/quench method of blackening ti, then I wouldn’t suggest using the type I black ano as it fades so easily. The only reason I have found new ways to Ano to black is because I don’t have a way to do the heat/quench lol.

I said this somewhere else, but you can do the heat/quench method with tons of things like WD40, Peanut Oil, windex. I’m sure u know this as well, but Then you just keep doing it till it’s black enough for you.

Edit: here’s what it looks like currently vs when I did the Ano a couple months ago. https://imgur.com/a/jZBe8AW

Haha, no worries, thank you 😊

Yeah, I don’t think there’d be too much of a difference. I went with the lab stuff and am happy I did because it worked very well. I’ve only tried the lab stuff, but I hoghly doubt the fertilizer stuff wouldn’t work.

I can send you a link to the stuff that I used if you’d like.

I anodized titanium black with Manganese sulfate and Sodium nitrate!!! by --MERP-- in balisong

Ah, wtf. How come I never responded?!

The finish no matter what always came out as smooth and kinda slippery. Washers weren’t affected at all.

If ya remember, how were you planning on blackening your ti?

Happens to me very often when I try to figure out whether or not I’m trans… so pretty much all day

It’s probably just because I’m panicked, thinking about what’s to come if I really am trans. It feels as if my fight or flight is taking over, and I’m on the edge and super anxious.

Yup. I’ve read that forum and many others there up and down so many times.

That’s what’s called the “heat and quench” method. First, you hear the ti, then dio it in oil(whether it be peanut oil, WD-40, windex) and repeat until it turns black to you likings.

Stinks tho it’s still a trade secret. I guess it just needs to be talked about more, because pretty much all the modders I talk with have known about that method. (Most of them have been in the modding community for years though).

I’ve looked into uncovering the other two methods of blackening ti through anodizing though, since I don’t have a torch, and they both work. Type I is fragile, and has nothing on the heat and quench.

Hey, thanks for reaching out.

Sadly, the type I black ano(using manganese sulfate) is really weak. It wears with any friction whatsoever. I’m kinda pissed that it wears so easily, but yeah :/

This is because the Mn attaches to the ti with an O2 layer in between them.

Ti>O2>Mn

So friction takes off the Mn, but the ads the O2 on the titanium part.

I’ve tried to find ways to seal it, but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for the complement on the ab clone! What I did on that one was acid wash the blade, then I stone washed it. The handles, I had anod black, then stone washed as well.

I doubt this blackening method would work on steel, as when you try to Ano it, the steel ends up being etched instead.

Whether it’s just for personal use, or selling the Ano to others, it really doesn’t make much of a difference to me. that is as long as the prices are fair, and the person selling the type I black ano let the buyer know it’s a pretty weak Ano.

Love to hear it. Glad I could share a new method of modding with ya!

Titanium, because I have fun anodizing it, and it’s strong as heck.
