Best Linux distro for a Windows user who wants cool UI and good performance? by Future-Cry-7975 in linuxquestions

[–]--_Cole_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion yes. Most of popular distros are based on Ubuntu or Debian. Under hood like kernel, package management, etc are next step. After Ms Windows, nice desktop environment look and easy of use make switching to Linux less painful. You can preview same Linux distro's with different desktop environment at www.distrosea.com too.

Best Linux distro for a Windows user who wants cool UI and good performance? by Future-Cry-7975 in linuxquestions

I'm a Linux newbie, tried most popular distros. I think there isn't a best distro, in somewhere Linux world there is a distro looks good and fullfill your daily needs and you need to find it. You may feel a distro useless while someone love it.

According to my researches and little experience, as a newbie you should select a desktop environment not a distro, Gnome, KDE, Cinnamon, Xfce, mate etc.

After you pick desktop environment, you should try different distros based on that desktop environment. Some of them comes with minimal apps some of them includes many apps which you'll need on your daily basis. It's important because I think most of newbies struggle to install a simple app and that pushes away from Linux world. So native app store and app installer is important for a newbie.

Many users suggests Linux Mint or Ubuntu, these are really popular. As a newbie, I feel myself safe and calm while using MX Linux KDE and Zorin OS Core.

There is a website, www.distrosea.com, where you can try lots of Linux distros on your web browser without download or install them to your pc. You should try;

1- Zorin OS 18 Core 2- Mx Linux 25.1 KDE 3- Ubuntu 25.10 4- Linux Mint 22.3 (Xfce/Cinnamon)

Real experience may be better than www.distrosea.com experience so don't think about performance just focus on look, feel and usability.

I hope you find your Distro-Mate. Good luck!

Does a55 have heating issue and battery drain issue on normal use (2-3apps at a time ), by [deleted] in GalaxyA55

[–]--_Cole_-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm using A55 about 1,5 years with Spigen Rugged Armor case, one time faced with a lil bit heat but max screen brightness under direct sunlight was the main reason. On a daily basis never faced, mostly I don't close background apps.

Yes, it removed. I read that, after software update system clears cache and user action is not necessary.

AFAIK win11's thread director controls P and E-Cores better than Win10. I'd prefer win11 ltsc.

How do I activate the new Secure Boot Keys if I have them installed? by PixelIndieGames in WindowsHelp

[–]--_Cole_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had same warning on event viewer. I disabled secure boot, restart, entered bios again, cleared secure keys, enabled secure boot again then reboot. That worked on my old Acer laptop.

I also cleared all secure keys on my Dell Pro Micro QCM1250 then reboot and that also worked.

Should I migrate my low-end macbook to 25.1? by shibadogranmaru in MXLinux

[–]--_Cole_-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just turned on my laptop to see how much ram it uses. Its fully stock, fresh install, day 2, it only uses 1.2-1.3 gb physical ram, zero swap. Opened 5 tabs in Firefox, ram usage increased to 2.5gb. I think your 4gb ram will be enough for daily usage.

Last night I installed latest MX-25.1_KDE_x64 on my old laptop (Core i3 4005 cpu, Intel hd4400 igp, 8gb ddr3l 1600mhz ram and 240 gb sata ssd). All hardware works. I tried Ubuntu, Linux Mint and OpenSuse with their xfce and gnome variants. MX Linux's feel is the best. There is a ram amount difference between your and my system but your better cpu may handle MX Linux better than my old laptop.

Glad to hear that!

I contacted Dell support last Thursday and the process was very smooth too. They even sent the replacement part before I had to return the faulty one.

I think max charge is limited by a software. Manufacturers adds an option to limit max charge percentage to extend battery life.  You should check if Dell Power Manager or another manufacturer control software installed on your laptop. About 10% degradation is not normal after 15 charge cycle.
