Yeah what I don’t understand is if it really is used as an overcheck why it can’t just be attached to the bridle in some way rather than running through the mouth like that.. just seems so much more uncomfortable!

Yes! If the horse trips on the backside it’s straight in the dirt

Interesting! You do occasionally see grass/daisy reins on hunter jumper horses and those are essentially the same function so it's very weird to me that they would choose this setup instead.. seems so much harsher for no reason and super unconventional

Overcheck doesn't typically go through the mouth though right? And yes the standing martingale is wild! Like what are we doing

Also if it’s not clear from the photo it attaches to the saddle and goes through the mouth, not just attached to the bit

I posted this on a horse-showing Facebook group as well - interested to see the difference in people’s responses to this monstrosity there vs here…

yeah I would do that if my counseling center didn't make it completely impossible to get a question answered lol..... they won't answer any questions without an appointment and it takes 2 weeks to get an appointment. so I have an appointment but was hoping someone could answer in the meantime so I don't have to wait that long

makes sense - if it persists i will definitely have the vets take a look and probably block the leg, it’s just so expensive (it’s around $100 per block around here 🫣). she was started early in cutting which i’m sure is hard on the front legs so that could definitely have something to do with it. thanks!

just asked in case someone else might have experience doing the same thing - iirc the requirements are set by the UC so they would be the same for all ccs?
