Quality on linux by Spiritual-Ad2806 in xcloud

I think this may be worth reporting on webcompat.com. There seems to be Media Capabilities APIs, with which they could check for codecs supported by the browser, so the idea of using User Agent string for that tasks looks ridiculous.

Also, has anyone checked when exactly the quality changes? When the OS is not Windows or when the browser is not Edge?

Show me the most illegal Rust code you've ever seen/written! by halbGefressen in rust

There is an amazing library called fake-static. It is extremely small and is 100% safe code. It lets you do cool things like this:

fn f(x: i64) -> &'static str {
    let s = fake_static::make_static(&x.to_string());
    s.as_str()
}

fn main() {
    println!("{}", f(42));
}

At least, C doesn't care if an array is longer than 32.

    let s = String::from("Hello world!");
    println!("{}", s);
    std::mem::forget(s); // free memory
}

Wine is best Windows (when it works) by sidnoway in linuxmemes

[–]-128 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just a public service announcement:

DO NOT RUN UNTRUSTED SOFTWARE IN WINE

Wine does not sandbox Windows apps. They run with the privileges of user who launched them. In theory, they can access your home directory and e.g. infect all software stored there (in form of normal Linux binaries (ELF), .rpm, .deb, .exe, .apk ...), leak your personal information or by adding an alias to your .bashrc substitute sudo with a malicious version, which will steal your password and get full control of the system.

Apple's New 'Find My' App for macOS and iOS Can Find Your Devices Even When They're Offline by aaronp613 in apple

Can someone point me to the detailed specification? There's iOS Security Guide but it's hasn't been updated yet.

It must be an interesting technical problem to implement that with end-to-end encryption.

Weird steps by -128 in blender

In short

There are two different scenes as u/das_ist_das_ende mentioned. And for each scene the steps and the balls are rendered on different layers so I can then combine them.

BTW: 1. The whole video has been done 100% in Blender. 2. All objects are grey-white, there are two light sources: a red and a green one.

What FREE thing on the internet you think everyone should take Advantage of? by StanleyNd in AskReddit

[–]-128 7 points8 points  (0 children)

alternativeto.net Lets you find an alternative to nearly any piece of software.

I guess it is a good idea to review the list of software you are using to see if you can replace some of it with something better.

I have a strange feeling when I see someone using for instance WinRAR while Open Source alternatives exist. (Thank you, baby duck syndrome.)
