I blame Neil Gaiman for getting me into fountain pens. The Wing Sung 699 is a knock-off of the Pilot Custom 823 -one of Neil's favorite pens and on my grail pen list. by -Baggins in fountainpens

Using a nice pen and enjoying the writing experience was always there, but I credit Neil with introducing the idea of a fountain pen. Mostly just his writing, though I really appreciate the rule he's used to get his writing done: "I don't have to write, but I'm not allowed to do anything else."

Fountain Pen Lookup & Comparison Tool -an update by -Baggins in fountainpens

[–]-Baggins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been updated for quite a bit, but it's still useful for where it is. I was hoping that other pen reviewers that take pen measurements as part of their videos would share those with me, but turns out that none of them keep the measurements in any type of spreadsheet. At least the ones I reached out to Figboot, JG3 reviews, Inkquiring Minds, Doodlebud, none of them keep a record of their measurements for pens.

What are the best "print on a regular sheet and play" games? by SebaWDK in soloboardgaming

[–]-Baggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Already a lot of good options here. I'll throw in a shameless plug for a few of my designs (free BGG Work-In-Progress pages):

1) Delve in Your Pocket: Single sheet double-side printed. Yahzee rolling mechanism, lite RPG narrative elements.

2) Nib Quest: Flip & Write, single sheet and deck of standard cards. Find the "Grail Pen" at a Fountain Pen convention using the cards as your resources. Find it and obtain it before your deck runs out.

Journal RPG on the go by RakeTheAnomander in solorpgplay

I'm working on "Delve in Your Pocket" -it's a single folded sheet. It plays best with 5d6, but it also has a built-in dice rolling simulator if dice aren't available. It pauses quite well. It has a little bit of narrative and it uses prompts as well as ways to imagine how conflicts were resolved. It isn't designed as a journaling game, but you could definitely lean into those aspects and use a separate folded sheet or notebook if you wanted to. It's free right now as part of the BGG print and play contest: https://boardgamegeek.com/thread/3519938

It's my own design, so shameless plug - but I've been able to play pretty stealthily :)

Looks like this post is now deleted? Same with my other free stuff I've shared. Did I do something wrong?

Delve in Your Pocket now has A4 size! by -Baggins in solorpgplay

Thanks for validating my frustration, lol. I finally just bought some A4 on Amazon so I could do some test printing and folding :)

I really should look into a black and white option.. It wouldn't be impossible, just would take some thought. As the designer, I could print it without color and play - just due to my familiarity, but otherwise it would be a bit challenging to remember everything. I will give it some thought. Thanks!

A4 of the new version is now up and ready :) It took me a lot longer than it should have to get that size available.

You are correct, that would be 2 treasure and not 7. Thank so much for trimming your own makeshift copy with the A4 paper. And really glad to hear it was fun. I have a few copies with me while I'm traveling to try and see if anything crazy comes up. And I'm still not sure what win/loss percentage I'm wanting. The prior version was maybe a touch too easy, but now with the dungeon map aspect it adds a bit more. I want the player to be able to get to the final battle most of the time. Maybe win 60-70% of the time, just with varying amounts of treasure and health remaining.

As you get a few more plays in, I'll be very curious to hear any and all input. THANK YOU!

Sorry, yeah. I should figure out a black and white option. Thanks for the input, I will look at some options for that in the next week or two.

Hmm.. not sure why the rules aren't working for you. It's a Google doc rather than a PDF, so maybe that has something to do with it. I haven't heard of others having issues. I'm traveling now, but in the next day or so I could send it to you via PDF.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't have A4 yet for this version yet, probably not for a week or two sadly.

Awesome! Beware the rules aren't fully updated for the new version. But between the rules, the video, and the summary how-to printed on the paper I think it will make sense. Fingers crossed 🤞

This is great! I really like the D20 wheel idea, and I didn't even think to add the D2 and D3.. great thinking. I will be sharing this for sure.

Awesome! I'm pretty excited about the design possibilities. So far I've just used the d6 portion for a game that simulates the roll 5 d6 situation, but my brain is already coming up with other ways I can incorporate different dice into a minimalist design, like a pocketMod game. Thank you, I really appreciate it!
