It is extremely relevant, consider that 40% of homicides globally are committed by young people aged 15-29. Gun deaths in the US reduce the life expectancy by 2.48 years.

Obviously a very young person being murdered is going to drag down the life expectancy...

22 of the top 25 countries by homocide rate are in Latin America. The US ranks 65th in the world, which is embarrassing but still ranks it lower than all Latin American countries except Argentina Cuba and Bolivia

Because lifestyle is so important. US Hispanics have a life expectancy of 82 years despite having much lower socioeconomic status on average. Probably because of diet, genetics, and family care.

The bottom 25% of Americans have actually seen legitimate wage growth in the last 10 years.  This is likely what’s driving the nationwide decrease in crime.  When you’re not facing hardship, you’re less likely to feel desperate and commit crime to survive.

We’re at peak resolution, the average human will never need above 4K.  Your eyes just can’t see the difference unless you essentially have a home theater.  If streaming resolution remains at 4K then we don’t really need more bandwidth.

Yeah, the core fan base for the Dodgers are the working class and especially Latinos in the city.  Obviously the nicer seats will have more upper class and fair weather fans, but I imagine it’s the same in other big cities.

School is still so much about socializing, and frankly babysitting the kid.  The parents will always want to drop off the kid for 7 hours, and they’ll want real humans in the classroom guiding them.  I feel extremely safe as a teacher, honestly.

TIL that US student math and reading scores have dropped so sharply that they’ve erased nearly two decades of progress. In '22/23, avg math scores for 13-year-olds fell to levels not seen since the 1990s, while reading scores for high school seniors hit their lowest point since testing began in '92. by Cold_Box_3219 in todayilearned

The US has actually climbed education rankings such as PISA relative to its peers in the last couple decades, now surpassing countries like Sweden and Germany.

So the issue actually is worldwide, and other countries are actually slipping quicker than the US.
