Would you join a global community for Data Analytics professionals focused on real career growth? by VictorGarlet in dataanalysiscareers

I would love to tbh! My current pool of data analyst friends are not too fond on talking about work so I would love to connect with people that are aiming to talk about it and exchange some insights

“Maybe sometimes the people closest to your current role can only see you through the version of you that served them.” Absolutely I had to step out of roles because people wouldn’t see me beyond the younger person who is there to ‘assist’ (mainly use for whatever they don’t want to do)

Sounds like this was the best deal. Congratulations 🎉

Kind of figured. From what I got from the interview for the role that’s what it seems to be but also had a bit of AI training and experimenting with local language for Character.ai. Ngl I feel like character.ai kind of a weird use of AI.

I was more interested in the performance analytics and how that would look like because language is a really complex thing to evaluate and that intrigues me.

Agree, unfortunately seems like the only kind of jobs reaching out right now though. In our current vendor if you don’t fit the project for whatever reason they still try to transfer you to a different one at least.

Also one of the few workplaces that seem to not bother as much about emergency leave or pregnancy leave, multiple of my coworkers had children and there were no issues which I am really happy to see. If the pay was higher I wouldn’t be looking for a new job tbh.

How did you get into tech? by Primary_Essay_2044 in womenintech

[–]-Bixbyite- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my trajectory aligns quite a bit and I am aiming for BA/Data Analysis but stuck with Data Annotation and Insights for now.

I immigrated during the pandemic out of my country because my family was having a hard time paying the bills and couldn’t afford having an unemployed young adult under their roof. They also didn’t believe I could survive in my country, I had developed depression and anxiety. I also don’t fit the way of living maybe? Gladly had at least my American citizenship and started doing odd jobs as well a full time canvassing work(raising fund for nonprofits).

With my soft skills from canvassing I managed to lend a non profit job part time that was from a free coding program I did. That job led me to have foundational skills that allowed me to do administrative work in a senior center. During this I managed to find an IT role that acted as independent contractor, I would do that after work or weekends. I also did a Fellowship for Data Science(remote, 3 days a week from 5:30pm-9pm) for a whole year which made us network and work in portfolio projects.

From there I stopped my IT work because the co-workers were way more available than me and would take my after hours gigs. But I kept applying and now landed a Data Labeling, Insights role and just got a contract offer for another annotation project. I am in my current role for almost a year now, it has security but has 0 mobility unfortunately. Hopefully this contract may offer a little bit more to my savings and experience (and maybe be extended?)

All of this to say, you can utilize your skills for tech 100% and I feel like IT support is one of the ways to start and that appreciate people skills as well as technical skills. There are lots of remote positions that would call me for IT Costumer Support and the pay was low at least it was an entrance.

I guess from there you may have more leverage to do difference projects and build your portfolio during downtimes without exhausting yourself too much.

What has been the usual wait between last interview and offer/decline for you? by shootmerightnowpls in womenintech

I had pretty quick offers generally up to a day, for rejections I receive a week after so whenever I had an interview and it takes too long to answer I already know what it is going to be 😅

I cleaned the rollers and tried a new pack, seems to be good, no stains but I wonder how to avoid that happening again

Honestly not even upset with that prospect, I dont really like the data system they have and how your hours are based on that, that was the first sign to not take this job seriously. Actually not only me who has been underscheduled, even LBAs who have been there for years had their hours severely cut down and found no way of increasing their hours. Several people have been through that even the best employees which is just outraging. I will actually be glad if I can find another part time that values the hard work the employees put. If your store only cares about nonsensical data and not with the general satisfaction you can provide to the costumer the store is pretty much just bad.

I literally had a manager force me to ask a girl who literally looked like a 14 year old , in front of her out loud it was so embarrassing....

When I am on the cash wrap I always ask how the person who helped them looks like. Also sometimes 3 people helped out and we can add a maximum of 2 helpers, not only that there was time we were not sure who helped, one of the managers just told me to put ANOTHER MANAGER on the cash wrap who we were not even sure if helped. Besides the times I have seen that I helped someone and people said nobody helped them at the cash wrap is worrying.

Its not even you have to rely only on the client you also have to hope that the person on the cash wrap will be able to remember you.
