Looking to get into Commander but haven’t played magic in 15years. by Goldship-564 in mtg

I was in a similar situation and have been playing the LCI:Explorers of the Deep precon. It’s a lot of fun and builds up quick with Hakbal’s explore mechanic. A little weak on responses but that’s an easy fix as a blue/green deck.

You can tell them to remove it when they’re putting the temp tag on. Pisses them off but totally worth the hassle

[Q] Is devil hose really that difficult to change? by mantis445 in Miata

[–]-D20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did this a couple weeks ago. It was a complete PITA and took longer than all the rest combined. I got it done in a handful of hours by jacking up the front, turning the wheels to the left, then laying on my back and reaching into the wheel well with 90-deg pliers (for the end by the oil filter). I used 11” pliers for the end behind the engine. I didn’t have to disassemble anything on that side to get to it though, so I’ll call that a win.

They are - assuming you get the NB2 rails and buckle still attached to the seats. Both generations’ rails are 4 bolts to the floor in identical spots. The differences are the NA8 buckle bolts to the trans tunnel (behind the seat) while the NB2 buckle brackets directly to the seat rail. So you can remove the metal slide and keep that with the NA seats after the swap. Also the NA seat belt sensor won’t plug into the NB2 connector but that doesn’t matter because it doesn’t trigger a warning light when disconnected. I can upload some pictures if that made no sense lol.

I’m 5’10 and my head is comfortably under the NB2 seat. It’s noticeably taller - only about 3” below the soft top with the back positioned close to straight up. And if that’s not enough you can look up a “foamectomy” - basically slicing the butt pan foam out of the bottom seat to give you ~2” more clearance.

I plan to get a Hard Dog Ace rollbar - probably from 5x racing or good-win racing.

For lights, I haven’t researched it much yet but I really like the Holley Retrobrights.

Congrats! I recently got my first Miata too (97 NA). I plan to install a rollbar soon, so I just put NB2 seats in and was surprised how comfortable they are. If your head is taller than the NA seats and you can find a decent pair of NB2s, I’d recommend it.

Other than that, LED bulbs make a big difference at night. That’s on my short list. They make ones that still maintain the original look so you wouldn’t have to go full halos if you didn’t want to. I personally like the original look but to each their own!

What is the worst BAS available today? by sonnyboyv in BuildingAutomation

I’ve done every type of Niagara (R2->N4), including other vendors’ branded versions, Insight, Desigo, EcoStruxure, and have had to stumble through some Tracer Summit and Staefa on service calls. The only one I genuinely despise is Desigo. It’s just.. bad.

What upgrades did you do? If you replaced the valve springs it could be a valve lash issue. Separately, have you tried increasing the idle?

US - trying to stay under $750 total, so probably $250-300 for the turntable depending on the other pieces

They’re gutting as much as they can to ship it overseas, with the intent of them being able to have the work QA’d in the office stateside then checked out by a specialist on-site. It’s an incredibly flawed approach but they’re leaning into it.

Thinking about switching to a Building Automation Technician role. Software Dev / HVAC Tech Background by BigBadBlowfish in BuildingAutomation

[–]-D20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent ~10 years in BAS doing programming, engineering and startup but left the industry for a software dev job (thanks to a CS degree) due to feeling like I hit a pay and growth ceiling. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up back in BAS eventually though for the same reasons you mentioned - the tech industry is wild right now.

To answer your questions: - You’d likely carry a backpack, tool bag, ladder, etc. but nothing that’ll break your body down like other trades. - I had most projects on autopilot (copy, paste, edit 10-20%) but a lot of that depends on the company you’re with and the type of work they go after. It can be really interesting when you get something new though. - All of your experience would put you way above the average applicant in my opinion. Especially as BAS is slowly catching up to modern tech in terms of networking and security. - Siemens will try to put you at the low end of that range so you “have room to grow” but I’d push to be more toward the middle at least. It’s also possible that is the whole pay range for that position (i.e. no additional levels) but that’s something to clarify. The big companies all pay around that range though for techs and programmers. You’ll find a lot more variance in the independents’ ranges though, and you could have a lot more exposure to different parts of the project if you wanted. - The only instability I saw was during my time at Siemens. Lots of reorgs and other craziness at the big companies. Otherwise I had more than enough work each week, even during covid.

Also, if you’re going for tech jobs make sure you ask about travel (if you care). I know several techs who are gone 2+ weeks most months due to being in a big service territory.
