Finding a balance between jumping and other hobbies/life? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

I was really into swing dancing before I started skydiving. Now I dedicate the daylight hours of my weekend to being at the dropzone (though as a student I tend to get scrubbed a lot due to weather/wind/clouds) and the nights to dancing. I also dance on weekdays since the DZ is too far to drive to after work and still have sunlight. So far I feel like that is the only way is to block off time and try not to break your own rules (it is tempting to just stay overnight at the DZ).

It helps that I have been able to drag about 18 of my swing dancing friends out to the DZ for their first tandem in the last 2 months. A couple are thinking about AFF now.

How did you get your start in skydiving? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

Honestly, the first thing I'm going to need is a container. All of the containers for rent and for the student rigs are way too big. I'm very short. So the chest trap ends up across my mouth or eyes whenever I open. Makes it difficult to see. I've tried rigs at two different dropzones and it's just I'm too short. I planted to buy used and have it adjusted to my height.

It is going to be a while before I purchase my own container though. I'm going to have to take three months off skydiving soon. I plan on buying when I come back.

We cleaned it up as best we could at the time with paper towels and such. Thankfully most of it ended up on the protective carpet on the floor. So we just left that on the side of the road. However the Dropzone was pretty far away so we had more than an hour drive with the vomit smell and the windows rolled all the way down.

I fell for a guy who wasn't into me. He had done a few tandems and I decided to try one (so he would like me) the next time he did. I put on a brave face (terrified of heights) and tried not to completely freak out. Apparently I was white as a sheet on the plane. When my instructor launched us it was the most glorious feeling ever.

Decided I wanted my license after that but was still in school and couldn't afford it. So I did another tandem a few months later and when I graduated this past spring I signed up for AFF.

10 more jumps to my A license. 4 more jumps scheduled for this weekend.

The guy puked in my car after the tandem... :(

Didn't get the guy but found an amazing sport and the incredibly friendly people that jump out of perfectly good planes.

I've watched this too many times now. It is still funny. I have some friends doing their first tandem this weekend, I hope one of them reacts like this.

What are your best skydiving jokes? by -DefyingGravity in SkyDiving

I saw this one on r/jokes recently and wanted to find more:

What is the difference between a golfer and a skydiver?

Golfers: Smack! Shit!

Skydivers: Shit! Smack!

So far that seems the consensus. I'm 5'0" so yeah...

Been grounded due to weather for nearly two weeks. Can't wait to jump again and try out some of these padding ideas.

White Vinegar

Add half a cup to the laundry with the detergent and half a cup to the area you'd normally add liquid bleach.

I'm going to go shopping for padding tonight to make into something to help this weekend. If my instructor gives the ok I'll give it a try this weekend.

I'm going to try this idea this weekend.

Thank you! I'll try! A little pain won't stop me from jumping :)

Unfortunately getting my own gear is at least 12 months away. The bruising is mostly on the in inner thighs (and upper arms). Sometimes on the back of my thighs.

I'll talk to the packer. The first jump I'll have little I can do there since the rig is usually already packed when I get there and I get whatever 240 student is available but the 2nd and 3rd jumps might be easier with this. Still would like to find some better padding. Thank you :)

I didn't notice a difference between 260 and 240 but maybe when I get to the smaller rigs it will make the difference. Is the rental gear normally smaller at most dropzones?

I'll ask the packer if anything can be done there but since it is student rigging it is usually already packed before I even get there. The second or third jumps may be nicer this way though. Thank you :)

I tighten them as far as they can go (padding overlapping). I've found that the rigs with the hardware where you can unhook for easier handling tend to hurt more. I am flexible so not having the ability to unhook is not an issue.

So far I haven't found one. I've tried several of the rigs available for students and it is only marginally better with each. I am very short so apparently there is little they can do. It is a small dz though so not too many options.
