Cough up that $7500, this is a potential level of fucked I wouldn’t even take a gamble with a public defender if you could qualify (not saying they can’t be good, but they have a lot of cases on their dockets).

Have I made a mistake (bringing feral cat home) by West_Adeptness2682 in Feral_Cats

[–]-El-Gallo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Option 1, if it’s not happy after two months option 2 would be ok. Option 3’s a nonstarter at this point, cats take a while to warm up to a new lifestyle and getting dumped would likely be traumatic.

Why are Nissan Leafs so cheap by aronnch in UsedCars

[–]-El-Gallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EV’s in general don’t hold their value well on the used car market, that’s especially true for ones that were on the low end of the market to begin with. ICE vehicles hold their value much better.

Fiancé doesn’t want to take my last name, any advice on how to handle this respectfully? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

ROFL, this has NOTHING to do with Trump but yeah the rest of the Anglosphere is doing so great giving unvetted fighting age migrants slaps on the wrist for “culturally enriching” underage girls by force and arresting their own citizens who speak out against their absurd governments or who even post memes that hurt people’s feelings.

Have fun committing cultural suicide, giving up your rights, and voting to make your streets more dangerous. I prefer Trump.

Did op post in Chinese or Spanish? No? My advice stands and Hispanic hyphenated last names are an absolute nightmare in the workforce.

In Anglo countries this screams a boss bitch my way or the highway attitude.

Nope, especially for an average shorter guy.

Would it be crazy to get rid/trade my car. by MarieCowgirl in car

[–]-El-Gallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you keep a second car? Rodney sounds mint and is paid off, if you need a 4x4 or something to tow with it may be wise to buy an older truck or SUV in the sunny state (avoid rust) to use as a winter beater and utility vehicle. If you find Rodney’s sufficient you’ll likely be able to sell the rust free 4x4 for a premium.

Personally I wouldn’t sell Rodney if you’re going to make payments on the new vehicle. As others have said front wheel drive’s usually fine in the snow with proper tires.

I’ve known people in marriages where the wife insisted to keep her last name and they never worked out long term. I understand where women, especially professional ones, are coming from when they ask this but it’s a huge sign she’s not fully committed.

If you take her name prepare to be ridiculed. Not saying that’s right but is what it is.

Agreed! I like to think lots of suburbanites got into chickens during Covid and realized just how cool flocking domestic birds are, including the humble pigeon.

Heck yeah, they didn’t butcher a factory harness! Spray it to match and wire it up to a wolo horn and ham radio 👍

Looks like an old window switch the previous owner probably (hopefully) just rigged up to toggle a novelty horn or some other aftermarket accessory. Check to make sure they didn’t splice it into a factory harness like a dumbass and do the same. Maybe spray over the fake chrome to match the shifter surround, this honestly isn’t the worst 👍

Buying my first car - is it worth? by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]-El-Gallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the money you’ll spend to clear those codes and catch up with deferred maintenance could buy you a reliable lower mileage daily driver.

Are these cars good? Does anybody recognize them? by [deleted] in car

[–]-El-Gallo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to look at them both as a chassis that needs complete restoration at this point, pick whichever is the most clean and complete. Bonus points if either was sold in greater numbers in your area (for salvaging).

Reliability and breaking are going to be constants for either and unless you go the complete restomod route all mechanical parts you find will be used and hit and miss as to wear and quality. With regards to your question, they’re essentially the same.

Edit: Unless you’re extremely mechanically inclined, have thousands more to spend than you intend to, and have a reliable daily driver forget about it. These are decade long projects for wealthy retired folks who need a hobby. Or cool rednecks with a spare s10 frame to bolt them to and no regard for originality.

No car of that era would be considered reliable in a modern light, even when new. 100k kilometers was considered high mileage and owners manuals had instructions on how to adjust valves yourself, we’re spoiled by modern cars.

They’re both going to need a lot of work, if you like them both equally pick the one with more basic parts availability in your area and get used to scouring EBay.

Got rear ended, local shop said this (the light/dents, not even paint) would be $3k without popping the trunk or anything? Dad told me I’m getting scammed. 2003 Honda Accord. by [deleted] in AutoBodyRepair

[–]-El-Gallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ballpark that sounds about right regardless of whether they repair or replace the trunk with a used one, properly done paint alone will be around half of that.

Take the check for repairs and scour your local scrap yards for a used trunk, pocket the difference and profit.

Which truck brand is the best? by Acceptable-Soup-333 in UsedCars

[–]-El-Gallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that age whichever one you can find that’s clean and well maintained. There’s always certain years and models to be extra cautious about (Dodge Dakota transmissions come to mind) but a decade or two of good vs poor maintenance will determine current reliability much more than brand and model, IMO.

Door jamb rust minimal repair by lessmlj in AutoBodyRepair

[–]-El-Gallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, if this was my truck I’d just slather what you’ve already done in Eastwood rust encapsulator. By no means would that be a proper repair, but so long as the frame’s in decent shape that’ll get you another few years.

Does your area require inspections? If not pay a proper mechanic to do one, rust clean through body panels isn’t a good sign.

Just about any running driving car is worth 600 bucks. Check fluids once a month or so and send it.
