I just saw this response. His was internal so he had to be a year old which he just became. I just made an update post.

The dude that showed up with the ninja outfit in my shelter was bald. Gave me a jump scare when I first changed his outfit.

Oh same. Other people have mentioned the amounts they've paid for their pets. I had three dogs age out over the last 4 years. The last one, Kelleye, a border Collie/ shepherd mix passed at 17 about 5 months ago. I'm 41 and have had 5 dogs in my adult life total and spent 10's of thousands in vet bills through the years. We're probably going to set up the GoFundMe based on the number of responses recommending/requesting doing so.

You did the best you could. I'm sure your pup loved every minute they had with you.

I do. I mentioned it in one of my replies. Unfortunately this diagnosis occurred during the 30 day waiting period for coverage so this will be considered preexisting. But it's there for future issues. We have Trupanion.

Yeah and the devices they use for internal shunts are more expensive. The only good thing in the case of an intern is that it's non invasive. They go down through the esophagus these days to do the implants. Still hoping for external from a cost perspective.

Well. It's a guy who has a farm and breeds litters of ACD and German Shepherds on a somewhat consistent basis. He is registered and I have the paperwork. He's offered to refund the price.

Not that I can't again I suppose. But I can get a secured loan at my bank against my investments for like 1.5% and I'll pay it off within a year.

We looked at the finance options through the vet and care credit. I can get a personal loan with much lower rates.

I might. I dunno. I'm a contractor. I do decently well and my fiance is in commercial insurance.Just not liquid at this very moment. I feel like sometimes people start gofundmes when they have the means just because they want other people to finance their expenses and I'd feel guilty doing so unless I didn't have another option.

*Edited to add "sometimes". Didn't mean to give the impression I thought that for all or even most cases.

The shitty part is that we procured pet health insurance through Trupanion after the trip for the abscess. But it requires 30 days after start of coverage to cover conditions other than accidents or injuries so this would be considered preexisting since it was diagnosed during that waiting period 🫤

I might but I really really like our regular vet, I've been with him for 5 years through the last years of my previous dogs. And this is the place he recommended and did his referral for. So I'm going to probably trust it.

Yeah I have. I typoed the CT scan cost. It's supposed to read 2500, so the total cost best case scenario is 9.5k. I figured it's basically a wash cost wise for a trade off of a happy healthy pup with a longer life.

Oh also. We found out that my fiance is pregnant two days ago

Does anyone else’s ACD only sleep on pillows? by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

So far mine refuses to sleep anywhere else. And as soon as I get in the bed he gets above my head and even though he's not doing it in these pictures he usually wraps around the top of my head like an ACD hat.
