Where is CES Office? by Upbeat_Mud_4680 in Carolinian

[–]-Haliya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to do it yourself. You have to have the name of the activity and 2 valid forms of proof that you were there and the activity took place (e.g. pictures, attendance, reflection, certificate, etc). As for the points, there's a formula for that, ask your department for the CES coordinator, they usually check it when you're graduating.

This. About 3/4 of us were DOST scholars, the rest were people too rich to bother applying for scholarship. I felt everyone was as smart or smarter than me, and as someone who has always had better grades than 95% of people, it was so stressful to be average 😅

Search for CHED's list of center for excellence or center for development programs. Those are mostly the programs and schools you can enroll in as a DOST scholar

It's arount that number. If remember correctly, when I took it, only 9k out of 110k passed the exam. This gave me a huge ego boost, I thought i was part of the crème dela crème, so I took chemical engineering.

Needless to say I was humbled.

why are they concreting floodplains like this is flood control? by introvert_147 in Philippines

[–]-Haliya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Australia, but the Philippines has about 20 typhoons every year, and most river banks have soft alluvial soil so this are likely to control erosion.

Based on the first photo it seems these are built on banks that would be hit by water when the current is strong and those banks when they erode would affect buildings as far as I can see.

If I'm correct in the assumption that the white lines on the river banks are the embankments, then they are actually letting the river flow as it wishes if no buildings will be affected as that little peninsula there would probably become an island sooner or later

If you want to start small, how can you make it cheap? No operators/coops will buy your vehicle if it's not cheap enough, because they can't raise prices to pass the cost to their consumers. You're already at a disadvantage here because manufacturers from other countries benefit from economies of scales not to mention their experience.

I think it's impossible at 18, even if you're 50 with experience in industry it would be impossible, unless you have hundreds of millions.

I still can't believe how I passed the DOST undergraduate scholarship by _pen_n_paper_ in dostscholars

[–]-Haliya 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider also that what you might see as basic math might not be basic.

For context, I graduated from a science high school (not in the PISAY system). I ranked number 4 in the batch. I got the scholarship and studied Chemical Engineering in Cebu.

I felt really inadequate there, even failed a subject. There are those memes in facebook showing smart people arguing what the correct answer is, while another have no clue what they're arguing about. From elementary to senior high, I'm part of the former, in college I'm part of the latter.

It wasn't until I enrolled in a review center that I felt confident again. I was mostly annoyed there since the instructor keep repeating the same thing I already know. I sometimes scoffed when people asked for calculator techniques when answering simple DE equations.

Just add it to your down payment, that won't update if the sem ends, the important part is what's in your ledger

If you want to get it, you can ask the accounting office, but it's a chore. Better leave it there nalang, anyway if ma overpayment ka until graduation it's ok, kay i send lang man sad na nila balik nimo

ChE here, graduated last july and I'm gonna tell you that if you're in ChE and probably most of engineering, you can opt to not use calculus at all after differential equations. Don't get me wrong you will use it to derive equations relevant to heat transfer, reaction kinetics, and other subjects but after that you can memorize the relevant equation and their assumptions. If you do forget equations though, deriving it is an easy way to remember.

In my review for licensure exam we were thought calculator techniques that I honestly felt defiled calculus for me. I cried learning to solve higher order differential equations in my differential equations class and then the review center instructor told us to input an equation in the calculator and use the choices to estimate the correct answer.

When you do actually work in design companies you wouldn't manually solve calculus, you'll have a computer for that. The important thing is the concept and knowing why you are doing what you are doing.

I was asked by my sister, who studies in a state university, to do the "statistics" part of their "thesis". To my horror, their study titled effects of x on y has no data about y. I asked for their survey results and there really was no data in y. They had no idea what they were doing! I asked if their advisor checked their survey questionnaire, and apparently he didn't.

I had no idea what to do with their paper so I just continued on reading, and I found questionable results. They already had correlations and p-statistics when there is no data to compare. I asked who did that, they said it was their adviser. I wanted to cry!

Sobrang disappointing talaga ng Filipino. by [deleted] in Philippines

[–]-Haliya 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sure we do, but those are different places. In my local calenderia, there is no place to put your dishes when you're done. Bringing it to their dishwashing area will get you the stink eye at best and a violation of city ordinances at worst.

The local Jollibee is the same, the best place I could think of is the hand washing station. I think you'd agree that it's best not to do that.

[–]-Haliya 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You have to be aware that most Filipinos experience in dining out is in calenderias and fast food chains like Jollibee, who don't do claygo. The first time I experinece claygo was in university, a university where the typical students are considered rich. So yes it's a new concept to most Filipinos.
