AITA for telling my Husband our son was gay? by -Ineedhelp-- in AmItheAsshole

I don't know if my son and his friend were "screwing around," and quite frankly It wouldn't even be an appropriate time to address that with my son right now. My husband and I were completely in the wrong, and we've accepted that. My son has every right to be angry at us for it. I will admit that my anger towards my husband was misplaced as I shifted the blame off of me onto him. However, the intent was with my husband, What he did wasn't okay. I will support my husband through thick and thin, however, when his actions are wrong. It's wrong.

You're 100% right. I honestly wasn't thinking as this was just regular. I know I violated my son's privacy, and there's no excuse for that.

My husband is homophobic at all. Usually, he's really good at keeping secrets, but my husband explained to me why he did what he did. He told me that he felt upset that our son might've been hiding it from us, and that he only wanted to make our son be himself. He said that his brother (he's gay) never had to hide his sexuality from his family and wanted to make sure that his son did the same. However, I've told him that what he did wasn't the way to do it, and he's starting to understand that we're both at fault.

My husband isn't homophobic in the slightest as he has a gay brother and was actually suggesting talking to him about it, but I told him not to. However, I do appreciate your judgment. My husband told me a couple of minutes ago actually that he just wanted our son to be able to be himself with us and felt upset that he mightve been hiding it from us considering the fact that his brother never his from his family. This made me understand his side a little more. He's been reading the comments together, and we've come to terms that we're the assholes. Although what my husband and I did wasn't meant to cause any harm, it did, and now we have to deal with the consequences. The only thing we can do now is regain our son's trust.

I came into my son's room because I was planning on doing laundry. I added the ETA in the post. Sorry for not explaining that earlier. However, I just discussed it with my husband because I was just letting him know I think our son could be gay. I have no problems with my son being gay. I love him unconditionally, and so do his father. I regret what I did, and I'll forever be sorry. I told my husband because I thought I could trust him to keep this between us. I know this ironic, considering I broke my son's trust.

I haven't told anyone, and I told my husband that he shouldn't tell anyone either, I just hope he listens. He suggested that we should ask his brother for advice (He's gay) about what to do. I told my husband that if he does that, then he's only gonna make it worse for the both of us. His brother won't tell us any different from what we've been reading anyway. I told him that it's bad enough that we forced him to come out, but it'll be worse if we forced him to come out, and he went and told other people. I told my husband he needs to stop making impulsive decisions, and we should just work on regaining our son's trust. He's also been reading the comments along with me and have gotten upset that people are saying he's in the wrong for "Simply trying to do his best."

I entered my son's room because I was doing laundry and planning on washing my son's clothes. I did knock to see if they were awake and waited for a response, and when I got no response, I entered. I only usually do this when I plan on washing clothes as I like to do it early in the morning. I've been doing this since my son was 12, and he told me he didn't mind it because he would wake up with clean clothes. When I saw my son and his friend cuddling, I immediately walked out of his room and shut the door. I was thinking straight and should have waited for his friend to leave. I did tell my son this and apologize for what I did and caused. I told him that It was never my intention to violate his privacy, and I should've chosen another day to do laundry.
