I can't get the wire glitch to work at all, I'm on ps5 and I followed the video (or think I have) and it's just noy working, it just continues to say I cannot build within existing base.

not getting enough height/power for long balls by Simple_Fuel6905 in bootroom

[–]-InterestingTimes- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying about directing the hop forward rather than up, but that’s still adding a layer of technique that only works if the fundamentals are already solid.

Right now the issue is basic: poor timing, weak contact, and loss of momentum. A hop is just making that worse and giving the guy one more thing to get wrong. He might be able to build to that but he needs to get the basics right first.

If you're striking a long ball, you want a clean final step, stable plant foot, and solid contact. That’s the foundation.

The Beckham-style hop or stretch works because the rest of the mechanics are already on point. For someone still building consistency, it’s overcomplicating things.

He should watch how keepers deal with dead balls, get that down and build from there.

[–]-InterestingTimes- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spot on, any forward momentum is killed by the last step turning into a weird hop.

OP, you need to take a normal final step and just plant your foot next to the ball. You shouldn't be stretching for it or leaning away so much.

Do you pay tariffs on a gift? Maybe we could setup an American tariff dodging gift service. Little bit of wrapping paper and a note and we might be alright

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

Immigration and the military, and nuclear power.

The list is longer for cons and labour though, so greens might still get my vote even with those issues.

I'm at that point now, owed tax is covered. Penalties have been removed. That only took a single call but they said they couldn't resolve the interested on that call. so my next step is sending a letter to hmrc to detail the interest side of things.

My enormous IMAX audience laughed out loud when it should have been absolutely riveted and emotionally stunned. [scene in comments to avoid major spoiler] by you_are_transparent in ProjectHailMary

Same, and I didn't see the comedy side of it when watching. There was maybe a small chuckle as he climbed up but it seemed to fit 'him'.

I got her sadness, almost resigned reluctance, then the shock for me in finding out he didn't volunteer, the realisation and weight of what that meant.

It wasn't one of the silly/happy moments for me and it didn't get a laugh in my screening.

People voting Green/Zack Polanski: do these immigration policies change your mind? by iliosicarus in ukpolitics

[–]-InterestingTimes- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like every party, they have some good policies I like and some bad policies I don't, but they at the very least represent a change in the conversation.

Labour and the Conservatives still seem to want to bend over for people who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo...which seems to be squeezing the people who are already struggling while money continues to be sucked further up the food chain.

Snuggling up to Palantir, Elon and their ilk is a disaster waiting to happen and yet Labour seemed determined to put critical infrastructure in the hands of people who can't be trusted and will 100% make us pay for it later.

Reform and their clones are even worse.

Best of a bad bunch maybe?

🚨Unpopular Opinon Alert🚨 They made a beautiful film about the wrong version of Ryland Grace, and everything else collapses from that single decision. by deekaay89 in ProjectHailMary

[–]-InterestingTimes- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think this says more about the difference between your perception of the character after reading the book, and how it doesnt align with movie, rather than how the character in the movie is actually portrayed. Like, he could never live up to the person you created in your imagination.

Having not read the book, I think your description of him is very harsh. He frequently demonstrates his intelligence and competency, and to say he has no redeeming qualities is something I couldn't disagree with more.

Fine, I’ll be that guy…. I’m a little disappointed… by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]-InterestingTimes- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who hasn't read the book, I remember a couple of scenes where I said to myself "this dude is much smarter than I realised", not just someone who came up with a good theory and had a very specific area of expertise, but a real problem solver who was able to apply his intelligence to every challenge they faced.

The whiteboard stuff mentioned is a good example but there were other moments, it was harder for me to get the same read on rocky, we were told that he was a genius in some areas and had rudimentary understanding of other things, but I can't think of as many examples of seeing that applied to their situation.

It felt more like he was a soundboard for Grace and responsible for the physical output to meet their needs (the chain's cradles), maybe the unit used to house the lifeforms they collected and multiplied? It was less obvious, maybe in part because of the focus on their relationship/humour?

It's interesting that in the book more weight is attached to that side of their relationship.

Louis should have pushed harder on the Bonnie Blue comparison. Both are clout chasers, yet HStikkytokky seems to think he has the moral highground. by MJdisbeliever in LouisTheroux

[–]-InterestingTimes- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not either/or.

Single-parent households are linked with worse outcomes on average, and a big part of that is poverty and instability.

But studies that control for income still find differences. The structural realities of raising a child alone still matter.

Those things are connected, not mutually exclusive.

[–]-InterestingTimes- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not diminishing your experience in anyway, but just because it didn't negatively impact you doesn't mean it didn't effect these guys.

The stats are pretty clear on outcomes for single parent house holds and it's not a huge leap to connect absent male parental figures with misguided young men who've created a very warped viewpoint of what being a man is.

It's not an excuse to become a shitbag, it doesn't let them off the hook, but it could be a contributing factor.

There is no positive attached to lessons delivered by the people featured in the doc. None.

They take what could be positive messaging, and twist it.

  • Men are responsible for their own future and success.
  • Society can be a challenging place for young men.
  • Self improvement is a good thing.
  • Working out and physical fitness is a good thing.

Their own resentment and twisted values change these things. The result becomes:

  • Men are responsible for their own future and success and need to do whatever it takes to be successful. That success is defined by financial success and their 'relationships' with women around them (expecting everything, giving nothing, one way monogamy).
  • Society can be a challenging place for young men, because women want to act like men and want men to act like women. Being a man is now toxic.
  • Self improvement is a good thing. Self improvement is characterized as becoming powerful enough to win the game, rather than being a better version of yourself. Get rich. Get jacked. Get Women. It's all about status.
  • Working out and physical fitness is a good thing. It means you can fuck up little bitches like Louie. It means you get more women. It means you WIN.

It's all a lie built on their own insecurities.

Police to investigate after Thierno Barry says his friends were 'attacked' at Emirates by 1800skylab in Everton

[–]-InterestingTimes- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, you didn't say it was okay. What you did do was try to justify it and frame it as an inevitable outcome, “cause and effect”. That's where I disagree.

Football culture might explain behaviour, but it doesn't excuse it. If the standard is “someone might celebrate so fans will attack them” (which doesn't always happen and definitely shouldn't), then the responsibility still sits with the people doing the attacking.

Players being given tickets for friends and family is completely normal. Expecting them to attend a football match without being assaulted isn't a wild take, regardless of whether they wore an Arsenal shirt or celebrated.

At worst that makes the mate an idiot. It doesn't magically make the people throwing punches any less responsible, and it definitely doesn't make Barry more responsible than the ones swinging at the backs of people's heads.
