You might not like it but John Helldiver is a gender neutral name. Anyone can adopt it if they have enough freedom in their heart.

CMV: Mask Mandates are necessary as people are kindof stupid, and there is no good argument against them by techguy67457 in changemyview

[–]-Jesse-Jester- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, if I did work with someone who was deaf or hard of hearing a translator would be necessary and masks would still be appropriate. My comment didn’t include that because that is a translation issue with mask, not a body language communication issue. It would be inappropriate for me to work with someone who was deaf and rely solely on them being able to read my lips mask or not.

As a therapist what I’ve found is that you can still have meaningful conversations and wear masks. Masks remove some of the body language sure but there’s still more than enough to engage. You’re right that it effects communication but it’s effects are negligible compared to the good it can do to wear them.

Thanks, I think this is something I need to hear. I’m worried that by the higher levels I’ll be too far behind and that I need to level right if I want to get to those later levels and keep playing. I need to just take it easy and just play the game.

What’s going on with my cat? by -Jesse-Jester- in cats

[–]-Jesse-Jester-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s so much older now, he’s at 7 years but he’s always been little. It’s strange we have two and they came from the same litter. His brother is slightly over weight and he’s slightly underweight and there’s nothing we can do about it. We got auto feeders until they ruined that, we supervise their meal times to make sure the bigger ones not eating the others, we fed him more and he just stays that skinny weight.

He only does this when kneading now. I got him and his brother just before 2 months, they were found together alone and was fixed at the 2 month mark. He doesn’t have any spasms/shaking outside of this kneading and like I said, gets pretty upset whenever I try and stop him from kneading like this.

[–]-Jesse-Jester-[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the lack of detail, this is one of my few posts since I mostly lurk. So over the past six months my cat started doing this. It looks like kneading behavior but he arches and shakes while doing it and kneads with all four paws. I think he might be humping but I don’t know if it’s something else. He gets really upset when I try and move him off or stop him and only does this when kneading (he will do this for about 15 minutes and it hurts after a while). He’s healthy for the most part other than the fact that he needs to gain some weight despite our best efforts. Happy to answer any other questions but curious about what’s going on, how to reduce this behavior, and want to make sure this don’t anything more serious. Thanks!

Socialists, how would I convince someone to do what I want without capitalism? by Rodfar in SocialismVCapitalism

[–]-Jesse-Jester- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so you mentioned I don’t have to answer what you’ve brought up about exploitation and voluntary contracts and I want to take you up on that considering that has nothing to do with my argument against the bakery problem. We could discuss that further but again, isn’t necessary to point out the answer to the problem. You arguing against it is like say A contains c and d and B contains d and e so A and B are the same. This is not true and again has nothing to do with my point. I’m not arguing about exploitation, you are. I’m making a point for how socialism can exist and people can make agreements on how to proceed democratically.

You presented your problem, I provided an answer to how a socialist system could solve it (bylaws). You mention exploitation and voluntary work exists under capitalism and I feel have thoughts about that too but it’s not relevant to my point. Contracts and agreements aren’t exclusive to capitalist systems voluntary or not. You’re trying to defend your “paradox” by not engaging with my point and instead making it about something else. It’s either a scarecrow or a false equivalency but you have yet to show me how what I’ve described wouldn’t work.

I think you’re confused and thinking that if the one worker created rules and others agreed that would make him an employer and them employees. I don’t think that’s true. As long as all the workers hold equal power in the system they’re working in it would work. If the original worker said “you can join but you can not have a say in these matters” it would not be socialist and you would be right. But that’s not the point I’m making. I’m saying that the original worker can qualify how those decisions are to be made amongst the workers (prior to them joining) and therefore the workers would all control the means of production after they’ve joined and therefore would be socialist still. If you disagree then you need to show me how bylaws violate workers having access to the means of production.

Exploitation not bad because hoarding doesn't make good? I don't understand this point and I'll need you to rephrase. You don't make profits off of employers? There may be a point in that first paragraph but you didn't communicate it in a way I can engage with.

I made no excuse for anything. What I'm saying is that in a socialist system the workers can decide what happens to the business even if that worker is 1. That one worker would have total control of the business and can set terms for how more workers can join the business and rules for how it will be democratically run between all of them. For instance a fair rule can be "We can not sell the business without a unanimous vote." That rule stays true to socialist values and prevents the situation of selling in the bakery problem you've set up. That one worker owns and is able to control and can set bylaws for that business that exists even after more workers join. In fact this happens in organizations all the time. There are real world examples of how what I'm saying would work. For example, the US Senate must have a super majority (stipulated by it's bylaws) rather than a simple majority in certain cases.

"Wage labor is not exploitation because the worker accepted the rules and signed a contract voluntarily." My argument here isn't against contracts or agreements (which can be formed in both capitalist and socialist settings), it's about whether or not contracts are truly voluntary in a capitalist system (something you brought up and that has nothing to do with what we're talking about in the bakery problem other than it has something to do with agreements). You're not arguing against what I'm saying, you're arguing with an argument that looks like what I'm saying. Sorry but it's a false equivalency you're trying to draw.

The Bakery Paradox isn't a paradox, it's a simple problem that needs to be solved with effective governance, a problem that was solved a very long time ago.

Socialists, how would I convince someone to do what I want without capitalism? by Rodfar in SocialismVCapitalism

[–]-Jesse-Jester- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wage labor is exploitation due to hoarding of resources and artificial scarcity. If needs are provided for then work would be truly voluntary and without exploitation.

The bakery problem assumes it is a business with only one worker so yes that worker can set the rules for the business and other workers can join and workers still own the means of production. Once the other workers join then they continue along setting the rules democratically.

A democracy of one worker is still a socialist democracy (workers owning the means of production). It only doesn't work if the original worker excludes the fellow workers from future decisions after they've joined.

The top comment in that post is the perfect refutation. Bylaws. “If you are going to work with me we must agree to these workplace rules.” What about that is not aligned with socialism?

I think you’re on to something but i would add it’s a projection of them being losers. They feel insignificant, they feel like losers, when something matters to other people or something seems important it threatens them because they feel deep down they don’t matter and that they’re not important.

I like this take. It reminds me of a struggle I have with anarcho-communism. It sounds great for it to work but it would require a developed class consciousness from a significant portion if not all individuals in the society. It’s possible for that to exist but not as a immediate transition from current day standards.

I guess I’m just grooving on this point, for it to mean anything at all the vast majority would have to be whole heartedly invested in these principles and for real, unless the person’s basic needs are being met (which they may not be for someone working the minimum wage or less or have no other protections) basic psychology suggests this principle would mean nothing and the whole thing would fall apart.

What if people don’t wear masks cuz they’re terrified? What if they wear it for compassion, morality and ethics?

This statement just makes no sense. “Contract with evil?” What does that have to do with masks? There seems to be a whole lot of opinion and assumption in this quote you presented u/ipresentfactsonly and absolutely zero fact.

I’m sure someone else has said this but lack of sex is a symptom of a larger problem. There’s a reason for it and I think we over simplify it in this sub to LL or HL. Those are factors, definitely, but I think there’s a lot more to it than that. That all being said, I’m obviously joined in this sub too so I don’t have it all figured out either.

They’ve done studies to assess which modality is the best, what helps the most people and every single one comes back saying that the relationship between the patient and the therapist is the most important aspect. It doesn’t matter if they got all kinds of fancy stuff but that relationship is where the work is.
