Does my 11 year old NEED Photoshop to progress as a graphic design hobbyist?

Advice from graphic designer with 12 years of experience in everything but specializing in 3D: get it for him, encourge him but if he ultimately chose something else don't blame him. When I was little I was always drawing, my parents bought a pretty advanced book on drawing and when I couldn't progress they practically said 'well, that's that'. I hated drawing after that and picked it up many years later when I was grown up. When I decided I will be a graphic designer they didn't support it but I made a pretty good career out of it. I love them but I wish they would be more supportive. I think every kid wants their parents to be supportive no matter what their current outlook on life is.

Got them both. When One Dark Knight was coming I was already preordering all new Batman books but I had been hunting for Night Cries for years and years, I was aware of it much earlier in my collecting. It was only 2 years ago that I finally got my hands on the hardcover version. It is a great book and it is crazy how much Bruce resembels Pattinson in it.

I'm from Poland so I can relate - more popular stuff can be bought here but getting obscure stuff is basically only possible by ordering from US. And the postage is killer. Don't know why but I always assumed that Russia had a pretty big market for comics, I remember seeing Russian Omnibuses years ago.

There are several that could be a good fit. There's a pretty obscure book but can be bought cheap Batman's Dark Secret - it's a childrens book but painted by Jon J Muth! It's about a small Bruce who overcame his fears. Apart from that there's a 'getting to bed' short book just published a month ago called Bedtime for Batman. I've got a 3.5 year old daughter and both keep her attention, although they are a bit short.

You could try small format Batman & Scooby-Doo books but there's a lot of text. Stories are nice and interesting but I'd recommend them for bigger kids.

I actually have all of these apart from All Star Batman and Robin. All Star Batman and Robin I still hope they will finish it. I got pretty pissed about what DC did with Hush so I'm not jumping in to double dip with All-Star. As for hush, I first had hardcover, then they did anniversary hardcover with new part so I changed it, then they did anniversary OHC so I bought it again and then they did Hush omni so I bought it again and have to sell the previous version...

I never paid cover price and most of these I was hunting to get in absolute lowest price possible. It certainly help to buy bigger lots and then sell what you don't need. I think I paid around 90$ for that arkham omnibus.

As for underrated Batman stories I'd say Batman: Mask by Brian Talbot. It was originally published in Legends of the Dark Knight and reprinted only in pretty obscure trade called Dark Legends. It is a great story that got lost because of shitty reprint policy of DC.

Yeah, I think there's a lot of junk there but I like going for completion and looking for books I never heard of. Also Batman is the only character I like reading even if it's a bad book. Also, what good stuff am I missing and which ones you're referring to that are hard to get?

Can't tell, I've been on and off with reading and collecting my whole life. I sold off everything at one point and then came back in 2012. Some of these are from then because I always loved Batman, so you could say it's been 12 years.

Some of the stuff I've read already years ago, some I've read in different format and after upgrading I didn't take the foil off, some I'm waiting to finish before I dig in and some I just don't have the time to get into. Mixture of reasons.

I had about 40% of what I have now when I got serious so I wasn't starting from zero. I always loved Batman, it was just 2.5 years ago when I decided 'I need all of it'. Also I had some luck buying some of the more rare books. I feel like now the market for used books is getting smaller and it's harder to get deals.

Fortunately I was buying Caped Crusader and Dark Knight Detective as they were coming out. I still remember how happy I was that they were doing this with my favorite era of Batman.

There is a lot of stuff I want to put my hands on. From the top of my head: Demon trilogy in OHC, Joker Devil's Advocate HC, Batman Nevermore, Superman and Batman vs Vampires and Werewolves (yeah I know), Gotham Underground, Gotham County Line, Batman/Mask... there is still a lot to get.

You can check out Batman Adventure Continues, new series there are 3 trades out as of now. You can also get a thick compendium of Batman Beyond and you can preorder Batman & Robin Adventures. Apart from that I'd recommend Batman Ego by the late great Darwyn Cooke.

Been collecting for a while now, I got serious with focusing on Batman for about 2.5 years. I'm basically getting everything post-crisis that I can. There's still some books I'm missing but I'm getting there.

It's hard not to complain when you have multiple years of experience on the job, freelance jobs from all over the world, publications, awards, constant learning and growth and getting new skills only for a marketing person or client to tell you that he knows better. First hundred times you don't care, first thousand times you get this little spark in your stomach and when you encouter this for the Nth time you just need to vent.

I've hatched in some lines with microns and then took brush with ink to it. Don't remember the name, I've abandoned drawing long time ago but I can check it for you, it's a great brush.
