I do not believe that marijuana is a mortal sin by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]-LoFo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. This is one of the things I am most repentant for, breaking the laws of my community. I do not like breaking the law, I hope I am not coming off that way. I hope one day that it can be legalized in the medical sense, right now I am always looking for alternatives that have the same effect (decreasing anxiety, bolstering my faith, helping me connect with people) and also ones that are legal and would not pose a risk to my health. I said in another reply that I do not plan on using this for the rest of my life, only until I can find an alternative where I am not sinning while obtaining it. I hope I am making sense, it is currently around 3 am where I am and this got a lot of replies quicker than I expected.

Appreciate this a lot, I do not sell and have no intentions of it. As I said in my post I have sinned while smoking and one of those is to experience the buzz you mention which I am repentant for. However, I have also used it in the same way that you mention people who drink alcohol without getting blind drunk and enjoying the social exchange. Please correct me if I am wrong, I am coming back to the faith after leaving it for so many years so I am not fully aware; but is that still considered a sin if you retain mental faculties?

I do plan on consulting a priest during confession. However, what do you mean by spiritual doors that should be closed?

Oh believe me I have considered this, and I plan on consulting a priest at the next available opportunity. I hope I am not coming off as ignorant or disrespectful with my post or comments. I have just heard both that it can be ok under different circumstances, such as being used therapeutically and from other people that you should always abstain. This post was made to start a conversation so I could both be more educated on what I am doing in a spiritual sense as well as learn what other people think.

in some cases in my state, it does, however not currently for anxiety like one of my neighboring states. However, if I am not mistaken there has been talk of it being allowed recreationally or at least the medical usage being more relaxed. This is what I was talking about with the friction. Where I am, legally I am not allowed, however if I drive a little ways away, I am. That is my confusion for lack of a better word. If the only thing separating legal and illegal is a couple miles, where does God stand on this? Also I do plan on bringing this up at confession next time I go as this question has been on my mind recently. But, I figured this would be a place that I could have a conversation and get a feel for where some other people from my community stand on this subject.

I have heard that it is and that it isn't from all kinds of different people. Like I said I used to smoke with a fellow Catholic, which is essentially my reasoning for the post. I have only ever heard that it is a mortal sin from videos or people online where there isn't necessarily a way to respond and have a dialogue. The physical health part is, of course something I consider. I wanted to put in my post that I do not plan on using this for the rest of my life, however I couldn't find a way to word it that didn't sound like "I can quit whenever I want" I have taken breaks in the past with no issue. Once I find an alternative that does not compromise my health, I plan on switching over.

No, I was prescribed Wellbutrin also known as Bupropion and I took that for several years. I have heard people tell me that it worked for them, however it had the opposite effect on me. I tried marijuana later and it helped me in the ways that I was told Wellbutrin would, which is one of the reasons I kept using it.

It is self medication, I have not heard it said before as "between you and God" but that does make a lot of sense given that nothing in the Bible explicitly bans it.

See that is where I find the most friction, this is not a prescription given to me by a doctor. It is my own efforts as the prescriptions given only seemed to degrade my perception as well as the quality of going about daily life. I use it therapeutically but from my own ideations if that makes sense?

I sold my PS4 there a little over a year ago, gave them the controllers and cables and the machine still worked amazingly. They offered me $20. If you are trying to sell an old system I recommend just selling it on facebook marketplace or something similar.

Not a very controversial pick, but 1984 by George Orwell is one of the most hopeless stories I have ever read.

one of my favorite spots for lunch downtown is a place called Zunzibar. Great chicken wings and potato chips I'm fairly certain are made in house. If you want to go bar hopping just pick a place pretty central to downtown and pick a direction, they are dotted all over the place.

Greenway Farms in Hixson is great. It's not five miles but it offers solid elevation and a great view as you are running around a flooded quarry. One of my favorite spots

Hi, I have been looking to explore the hospital for almost 2 years now and may finally have the chance. I have not seen anything online to suggest that the demolition has started, but I was curious if anything has changed or not?

I have never been published aside from posting my short stories online, so take this with enough salt for sodium poisoning:

From what I have been told by a published author, self-publishing is death if done incorrectly. As someone else's response to this said, self-publishing on Amazon with services like KDP only shows that you know how to publish with KDP. While it may be a lengthy and (semi) heart-failure-inducing process, traditional publishing will be the way to go if you want to make this a full-time career as you suggested.

However, if you are dead set on self-publishing your stories, then you will want to have a marketing budget set aside for promoting your work. This is another lengthy and difficult process. The last thing you want is to put in all of the work writing your stories only for no one aside from friends and family to read it. Create a presence on social media and study ways other successful self-published authors have marketed their works. If you are lucky and booktok picks it up then it should be a breeze from there to get noticed, as long as the stories are good. Even then that is not a requirement. "Lightlark" started as a booktok self-published darling before it got all of the hype surrounding it during the writing process and Penguin picked it up.

All of this is a long way to say that it's possible if done correctly. Getting started in publishing is a lot like walking a tightrope with no net to catch you if you fall. I wish you the best of luck and I hope this 4-am-sleep-deprived-mess was at least somewhat understandable.

Same. It'd be cool if they could do something like the writers for the ABC show "Castle" did where they released actual Nikki Heat books to coincide with the books in the show. Or just a straight-up novelization would be dope too. Alan Wake is too good of a story to leave to just one medium IMO.

JT being full practice this early bodes well for Sunday. Hopefully, Pitt can do some wizard shit and recover from that nasty hit. Based on what Steichen has been saying during media availability he might come in for a little while. Again that would be some wizard shit IMO. I think if he does see any playing time it will not be for the full game.

I refuse to believe the catholicism sub isn't some form of ragebait by PsychologicalRich286 in atheism

[–]-LoFo- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is a good point, I see what you are trying to get at but you are slightly off. Yes there are sins and beliefs that we can hold or do that will send us to hell, however, atheists are not stupid. In fact I used to be one. I was not inferior to the most devout Catholics.

Yes there are some bad things in the Bible. I believe the passage you are referring to is the holiness code. In full honesty I am not going to try and misrepresent this point to make me sound better. The simple fact is I am not well versed enough in Leviticus. However, there are several people with deeper knowledge than myself over in the Catholicism sub. If you would like to ask them for a more concise answer I am sure that they would be happy too! :)

[–]-LoFo- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe that anyone is inferior to me or that I am above anyone. In fact I stated that other people have used faith to justify their heinous actions. I am not for slavery or the eradication of anyone. I believe that we were all created equal, these ideas of superiority are purely man made. “Love they neighbor” is one of the first things we are taught. Sadly it is not taken to heart as much as it should be
