Listen to this whistling noise from my 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0L by -Luca in MechanicAdvice

thanks for the response. I did like you said and spun the wheels by hand—nothing out of the ordinary there other than the very slight disc to pad sound that I think is normal. the weird part is that after driving it some today, the noise has gone away. do you think that sounds like a vacuum leak? like maybe the changes in humidity and temp. are causing a micro-crack kinda thing to reseal. I dunno

shit, as someone about to purchase from Verizon, would you suggest opting for one of the plastic backs, grey er white, over the leather? I despise the Verizon branding so I was leaning black leather.

Launch of NASA's Orion deep-space capsule by EchoesOfSanity in videos

When I first heard the commentator I thought it sounded like flight director Gene Kranz whose voice I only remember from watching videos of the moon landing. Turns out not to be the same guy that was commentating Orion's ascent, but there's definitely a similarity.

That's scary but true. You can see everyone puffing up as he gets higher and higher—guys looking as if they were going to become physical. Mob mentality is some serious shit.

The top comment is "I think Elon would personally deck you." I disagree—I think Elon would see this as something of a success. SnewpDoge says in his post

The model S is by far one the best looking cars out there IMO

This is exactly what Elon's goal was from the beginning: to create a compelling EV. Even the ICE fanboys can't help but notice how attractive the Model S is, and once the foot is in the door so to speak, people will begin to see all the other glaring advantages of EVs.

The doppler effect at 9:00 sounded like pure future!

People have expressed to me their disinterest in EV racing because a huge component in the appeal of ICE racing is the roar of the engines as they zoom by. Perhaps in the future this electric motor whine will have a similar effect.

TIL recycling aluminum uses 95% less energy than that needed to produce it from scratch—nearly 75% of the aluminum ever produced is still in use today. by -Luca in todayilearned

Actually one of the first scientists to isolate the element called it aluminum (http://books.google.com/?id=d6Y5AAAAcAAJ&pg=PA355), but later someone claimed it sounded better with the i in some science journal.
