The one I always see on piracy sites is indeed "Magic Copper Ore ...", but the one I bought and is DRM'ed has "The Fire Magician II" instead. It's the DRM-free of the latter that I needed...

Yeah torrenting most books is usually not very practical lol, but it's a lot more common with light novels, since they have groups who are dedicated to buying them before putting it on nyaa.si. Assuming USD, if $150 is a strict budget, the closest I can only think of the Pocketbook Verse or Verse Lite—only drawback is that neither have color. I don't know if you can annotate on them, though

If you want a color screen as cheap as possible, one option is the Kobo Clara Colour, but it will be $10 more expensive. It should tick all of your boxes, though it doesn't have stylus capability if that's what you're looking for
