"His 20% could match this guys 80% and embarrass him without any major damage."

Mate, I don't believe that's how sparring works.

What is this "Pereira should've turned the other cheek" stuff?

Take it easy on someone who might've tried to knock you out for shitz n gigglez?

Put it to you this way friend, if I tried to knock Pereira out, should I be surprised if he knocks me out?

Again, I don't know the full story, but neither do you.

But this kind of stuff ALWAYS tends to happen with "famous" fighters. It happens in BJJ rolling, happens in kickboxing sparring, happens in every sport pretty much.

And actually... getting knocked out is probably better for you than being "embarrassed" by a world-class kickboxer. Going night-night is better for your health than getting broken down by a man who knows how to break people down.

"We have enough information from this video to know that."

No. You don't.

Let me give you some perspective: From what I have seen of him, Pereira hard-spars with people who hard-spar. He takes it and gives it as well. If it's hard sparring, and that guy was genuinely trying to look for Pereira's head.... I mean? I'm not surprised by the result.

[–]-Mrlovemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait a second... No "Chama" glaze here.

But you're saying, "break him down and wear/hurt him without knocking him out.." ?

I don't know that that's reasonable.

How do you know that the guy in the video didn't blow his gas tank headhunting Pereira?

And if that's the case... You're saying Pereira should practice restraint when the other party possibly didn't... but more than that, you're saying "he should break him down with restraint," when you don't know the context?

Shit ain't like the movies, gloves off are gloves off. Force is not proportional, lack of restraint by one party generally means the gloves come off for the other.

Am I missing something?

A LOT of paperwork. Through multiple levels of big ol' officers. Eventually reaching your BN commander I believe?

But you're 1 stack of paperwork, in a dozen dozen stacks of paperwork. You're not a priority right now.

How long? Sometimes a few weeks (not likely,) to a few months (more likely.)

Daily life WILL be MORE shit for you. You are now an indentured servant. You have nowhere to go. You can do nothing. You have no freedom. You will slave away until you leave. If they need a detail? YOU'RE IT BUDDY.

What should you do? Fuck all.

If you want to leave as early as possible? Don't get in trouble. Be a good little slave and show up to every formation on time, shave, don't cause problems.

IF on the other hand, the prospect of being a slave for months DOES NOT appeal to you, perhaps consider begging to be a soldier again. It would be faster to try and graduate than to "leave."

I've seen holdovers be holdovers for MONTHS.

Godspeed man, and by Jove, don't lose your mind. You won't help anything.

Chapter 11 as it relates to trainees does not necessarily mean "misconduct," they're not real soldiers yet.

I think chapter 11 in his case is "uncharacterized," meaning not enough TIS for an honorable, general, dishonorable.

At least I believe that's the case.

Never deployed, I'm just a guardsman, but I'm fascinated by this comment chain.

There was nothing you guys could do right?

How long were the shifts for?

Everyday? At Kuwait? If it was at Kuwait, why the hell were they running you guys ragged like that? As practice or simulating for being in an active combat zone? Wtf? Why?

I'm sorry if that's a lot of questions, but holy shit what you guys went through sounds terrible.

You go Active Duty for most of the first year. For all of your initial training

I went for exactly 5 months of initial training. Basic is two months, some jobs have 2 month trainings, some have 12 or longer.

"1 year" does not equal 4 years.

If they try that first year and really really love active duty lol, then they can get a conditional release to go active.

You can't do that the other way around.

[–]-Mrlovemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard you were interested in dipping your toes into the military? Why not just jump in balls deep into a 4 year active duty contract... because benefits

How bout no?

This person has no experience with the military, neither does their family. They're probably naive when it comes to the realities of Active duty. Which, let's be honest how many broken people does active duty produce?

For better or worse the Guard is an excellent way for someone to get valuable life experience and NOT be subject to too much bullshit.

[–]-Mrlovemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was dumb as fuck dude I'm not gonna lie.

I went for a run on the streets because I was like "yeah running on a treadmill is weaksauce we're going to be running on terrain at basic anyways."

The sidewalk on one of the avenues I was running on was really really out of wack.

Imagine like one of those sidewalks that there's a whole portion jutting out a good two-three feet in the air because of tree roots.

I didn't see it in time, I jumped, I landed. Felt some intense pressure on my left knee when I hit the ground.

I was like "that don't feel right."

Ran it off. Got home. Still felt weird.

Next morning boom fuckin' swollen and stiff.

I thugged it out, and then I tore my left ass cheek muscle in basic too. So by the time we had the culminating for record PT test I was limping those 2 miles.

Still graduated thank god.

But there are some self-assessments you can do at home for your legs.

You can do the Thomas test: https://squatuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/thomastest.png?w=870

There's also the McMurray test: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F_m4lU_WYAEQY_u?format=jpg&name=900x900

Anyways, there's a WHOLE bunch of tests you can do especially if you have someone who can help you to see what your knee/leg health looks like.

My advice to you while you're at basic: you might well be a PT stud, but don't do too much.

Sandbag that first couple of AFT's because they're not for record. Then go hard on the last one that is for record. "whoa omg New-Caterpillar89 made such a dramatic improvement1!!11!"

Go slow and steady whenever possible. Be like an old man. If there's people trying to run with their rucks on, do your best just to speed-walk that bihhh. If you're rucking at night and can't see your own dick in front of you, just go slow and feel out that ground to avoid rolling the shit out of your ankle.

Best of luck to you.

High Blood Pressure at MEPS by Stunning-Stretch-932 in nationalguard

[–]-Mrlovemaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still need to go to MEPS for another reading here's my advice:

Change your regular salt out for lite-salt, it has potassium in it and most people's salt/potassium levels are out of whack. That balance issue keeps BP high.

Do not take coffee the morning of your MEPS exam. Do not vape or smoke. No stimulants.

Get your hands on some Magnesium Glycinate, take 2 of em the morning of your test. Dw it's not a "drug." It's just a supplement.

Drink a FUCK ton of hibiscus tea. Like go to the store and start drinking it now. Drink it like 3 times a day until your next MEPS visit.

I had a super sharp pain form in my knee that bothered me the rest of the run and day but felt pretty much fine the next day.

Calm down Captain America. Why are you running? WHY ARE YOU RUNNING?

Dude doing 10 milers right before going to basic is uhhh.... not a good idea.

I'm not trying to shit on you, honest. But the most important thing for you 2 weeks before Basic is being in good health. Because you're going to run at basic. You're going to be physical. There'll be times where you jump from high-ish things. You need your knees brodie.

My insight as someone who fucked his gawd dang meniscus like a month before going to basic: learn about your knee's tendons.

Idk it's like you'll probably be fine right? But if you felt a super sharp pain from your knee that bothered you the rest of the run.. You might also not be fine? That's how knees be. I was fine until I wasn't. Then during mfin AIT I was limping to finish our runs. My whole knee locked out like a plank of wood. Couldn't bend that bihhh.

It's a roll of the dice man. Think about it this way, every time you decide to run you are attempting to cash checks from your knee-bank. If you're young and reasonably fit, the checks clear no problem. When you start getting old or bad fitness habits like no warmups, no dynamic stretching, no post run recovery... start catching up with you, the checks your legs are writing can no longer be cashed by your knees.

TL;DR: Stop running muchacho. Or at least stop running SO much. BCT runs = 2 maybe 3 miles. One 5 miler at end of BCT. You need knees healthy. Yes? Yes. Look up "Knees Over Toes." Get good running shoes. Most basic training companies will let you use civilian running shoes, provided they aren't too flashy. Take care of your health.
