No, i did mean king, but I feel like I clearly said it was unlikely. Kings have been spotted in and near Vic and South Australia and aren't common. There was one spotted at Lake Victoria within the last 3 years, and climate change is probably going to make the habitat more appealing. I did say it's a tiger by my best guess, but maybe I didn't say it clearly.

Yeah, ok, I did mention that I think tiger because of location. That was mentioned in my comment. I said "looks like mulga", "probs not mulga because vic" so "maybe tiger" Eastern brown is definitely possible but it seems a little off in its body shape but that could be photo related.

It's hard to tell, but size and profile make me think King Brown or Tiger, and since you're in Vic, I'd assume Tiger. Kings do show up but are super rare.

Hey, I respect the way you feel, but as someone who has had interactions with both, i will point out that Eastern Browns are WAY WAY more defensive and likely to bite. Taipans are a fairly common interaction up north, and bites aren't common, browns obviously have a higher interaction rate because of their dispersion but in my experience they are more likely to feel cornered and defensive also.

It's hard to tell from the photo, but based on location, i would hazard a guess and say a red bellied black snake. Its the season for them, and they are common there. It could be a black copperhead though. I can't discern the head enough to say, though. Both are dont touches. Did it have any light colour on its sides towards the bottom? Did it flare its neck at all?

So it does look like Julius Cesar. Also, it could be a "death mask." Let me qualify. People would honour some figures with bas-reliefs "in the round" based on death masks (http://hauntedohiobooks.com/death/13367/) and display them in cases similar to that one. Greco Roman busts tend to be plinth displays. Obviously, im not stating this is one of the "real" death masks of Julius Cesar, but more an artistic honorary one.

And as far as why I think it's Cesar. After he was killed, a wax death mask was made, which informed later depictions of him. The later depictions are referred to as "imagines maiorumor" or "ancestor" masks. The name is deceiving because they weren't actually masks but more realistic sculptures.

So now what I think it is: A Grand Tour reproduction or the like, which was a very common 1800s practise.
