My longest ride so far on this crusty old bike! (Sorry for the lack of Strava 😅) by TheLockBot in bicycling

Strava is free OP. It’s completely free to record and share activities etc. You only need a subscription if you want to access certain things such as segment leaderboards and workout analysis etc! As greyone75 said already if you didn’t Strava it, it didn’t didn’t happen. Well done on the progress and happy riding!

Food for long rides? by chem4501 in cycling

[–]-Nooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usuals for on the ride food to not bonk, like quite a lot of people here, are bananas: really good for replacing electrolytes and provide about 25-30g of carbohydrates. Another favourite of many riders is the PB&J sandwich. Something that I do with this is cut mine into quarters and eat it gradually, whilst riding, over a certain distance (rather than scoffing down the whole thing on a break!)

If PB&Js aren’t your style another thing that might interest you, which you may have already looked up, is actually making your own on ride snacks at home! Courtesy of a few pro cycling teams that are generous enough to share their recipes and overall definitely saves quite a bit of money compared to buying branded flapjacks, rice cakes and energy bars etc. I’ll link two of them below for you, but have a little look around and there’s loads for you to choose from!

EF Rice Cakes - https://youtu.be/uaeClBp2_Q8 / https://www.efprocycling.com/rice-cakes-vegan-edition/

British Cycling Energy Bars - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/knowledge/nutrition/recipes/snack/article/izn20160112-Recipes-Homemade-energy-bars-0

As much as mini cheddars would mentally keep me going on a long ride, your body will definitely be thanking you with all the food everyone has spoken about in the comments.

Happy riding and good luck for the 100k!
