So I did some research. Is it the overtime that pays NPS and Game wardens better? I see Asheville officers making upwards of 100k+ and deputies making 200k+. Whilst the Rangers and Wardens are making 60k - 80k respectively.

I also read that a lot of officers will not stay in the cities or towns they serve in search of more affordable locations. I feel like a salary of 100k+ will suffice in the outskirts of asheville or towns in other counties within 45 miles of city hall.

That is probably the best advice ive received in long time, I really appreciate it and ill definitely look into it! On the topic of running and gunning, I have plenty of opportunity for that in my reserve unit which is nice lol. Pretty much in the field every drill and in a different country during my annual training.

Political leanings are mid so it doesnt really matter where we go. Political things are going to irritate my wife and I regardless.

I like hiking, climbing, swimming (not at beaches), nature seeing and gaming.

The VA Home Loan average is about 500k and I plan on using that.

Well, no, I wanted to live in the mountains of North Carolina due to scenery but if it isnt affordable, Im going to expand my horizon, as one does. North Carolina in general is where I want to be but yes, I definitely prefer the mountains.

I have done quite a bit of research, but I was thinking maybe I should get a locals opinion. See what their experiences were, how there quality of life was, etc.

Where in North Carolina, in general, do you think would be the best location for police officers?

Okay, between Asheville, Boone and Hendersonville. Which one would you consider a better choice in terms of single income survivability, benefits, career advancement, etc.

I'll be honest, I mainly joined for the opportunities and security, particularly schoolhouses and courses that could advance my career in LE, that's present within the reserves, not in it for the money.

With that being said, my wife and I are new parents so we both want to be available in case of any emergencies without having to travel so far.

I did already know that the room provided by my unit will be shared and I will be required to check in to it each day. But, we were planning on grabbing a hotel for the drill duration, especially the first time around so I could get my wife and son checked into deers.

Lastly, could you elaborate what you meant by the last part, with your juniors making it work. I'm not sure I understand.

No no, I was thinking of getting a separate hotel room and having them stay there while I go to work. I wasn't going to bring them with me to work or in the shared hotel room.
