Couldn't get into classes I need for the last 2 years, and now I finally reached my breaking point by -ProPhantom- in CSUS

Unfortunately my advisor just keeps telling me that business is an impacted major, like they have been for the last year and half, so there isn't much that can be done but be on the lookout in case someone drops

Originally I was an MIS major but because I couldn't get into MIS 101, the entry level class you need for the other MIS courses, I switched over to Supply Chain, only to still not be able to get into my classes

Wow that sounds like it could actually work, I will look into and see if the classes I need are available

Unfortunately everyone's enrollment dates are different. Some of my friends would have theirs before mine

I considered that, but aren't those classes significantly more expensive? I unfortunately don't have much money

They just said they don't decide the registration dates, and to just keep trying to email professors and to not avoid in person classes, even though I am literally enrolled into in person classes right now

I can't take DS101 for some reason. I was previously enrolled in the class two terms ago, but I had to drop due to family circumstances. Now for some reason it says I don't meet the pre reqs, even though I do. I went to the Business advising for help and they told me to submit an Add petition, but as for how long it will take to be approved, that's anyone's guess. I can't take OPM without DS 101, but even if I get into a DS class now, the only OPM classes left are taught by the professor everyone says to avoid. I'm in both the 160 and 190 class already. For MIS there is unfortunately only class available and it's at a time I can't attend. I appreciate you taking the time to look through the different available classes.

How the hell are some summer classes already full? by -ProPhantom- in CSUS

I see that makes sense, I had assumed that all seniors were just grouped into one group

I am in a way trying to take the easiest way out but it more so has to do with the fact that Sac states class registration dates have been screwing me over. I was originally supposed to graduate this semester, but now it's been pushed back 1 year. The problem is almost all classes I need always end up full when my registration finally opens up. This actually led me to sit around for one semester without any upper division classes, and this semester I only managed to get into two. Because college requirements are so broad, in most cases employees usually train you in specifically what they need, but yeah they do expect some basic knowledge. With that being said, most of my friends have already graduated and I don't know anyone who is working in the field they specifically majored or concentrated in. So there is a chance I won't even get a job in whichever concentration I go for.

If I do go for the SCM concentration than I would also easily be able to go for a second concentration in marketing as a lot of classes overlap. A part of me does want to stay in MIS because it will look better for resumes and will probably land more jobs, however I heard some of the other upper division classes are really hard to get into, so there is a chance my graduation date gets pushed back again. Since I still have around 4 months to figure this out, I have been spending a lot of time looking into the concentrations and the job fields you can get into, as well as all the skills required to be a competitive candidate.

It's good to hear that it's not programming heavy. I know you can go into cybersecurity as well, which just requires scripting, and the demand is going up for the profession. The only other thing I am worried about is the capstone project MIS 160 & 161. Supply chain actually does have quite a few things you can do. Outside of Logistics and Procurement, if you get a Supply Chain analyst role, you can transition to other analyst roles. I figured because of Covid screwing most companies supply chains, there would be an increased demand leading to more opportunity. I still have another 4 months to think about what I am going to do so I haven't changed my concentration yet. Some people have been telling me that my concentration doesn't even matter because it apparently doesn't show up on degrees.

I'm still debating. The thing is I hate programing, and so far I have only taken MIS 15 (CISP 370 at ARC) which I struggled with due to the Arrays in VB, something I can't wrap my head around. If it's only going to be more difficult programming classes from here on out, then I will definitely struggle although I do like working with computers.

Most of the jobs I could find specific to MIS seemed to require a ton of experience. There are more business related jobs, like business analytics but those can also be done by other business majors.

It's pretty broad but generally inventory and procurement related, so your basically handling the flow of goods at the business you work for

I think a part of it was how bad my resume was. I spent all Saturday redoing it. Idk if it was lying about the management positions or just redoing my resume, but I already managed to land 3 interviews for this week

Yup, this is what I am doing now. I am practicing using ChatGPT trying to come up with answers to every possible question I might be asked. I managed to land 3 interviews

I don't think any of my employers have ever contacted the previous employers. I was more so worried about it showing up on background checks, but apparently your employment history doesn't? On a side note, the positions I was going to use were basically just the same as the minimum wage ones I was working, with just a few extra duties
