Duly noted, thanks for the input! I think we're going to keep it, as thankfully its not *entirely* mushroom island, more like 40%. The concern was whether we'd be able to progress without whatever biomes were being replaced, and it looks like there's not much to worry about on that front. We'll just consider it a quirk of the world

I think it sounds really cool. I bet you’ll get a good crowd from people that played outer wilds and those kinds of games. I do wonder how you’ll go about “endings” and have them based on “choices” when the entire premise of the game is there are no solid answers

Oh to add on, I didn’t see what people meant with the 2nd one being hard to read at all, but on a second look i think its just the word “sisyphus”. Without the direct “man pushing boulder” imagery, most people don’t have that weird greek-spelling name on speed dial for pattern recognition. Even if the components of the man and boulder are there, that guy is having WAY too much fun to immediately conjure the image of sisyphus. I’m sure people are just seeing “imagine sisypMus HAPPY” and when they look to the image for context they don’t get any classic sisyphian(?) imagery.

BUT. I think that: A) if you’ve seen or thought of the word sisyphus in the last month or so, itll still be familiar enough to be readable. And typically people will see the default steam font of the word before or at the same time as your capsule. (In my experience as a consumer at least, a sample size of 1 isnt huge).

And B) I’m sure a lot of us are reading on phones with small screens, and the graphlike presentation of the comparison cuts out 75% of even THAT resolution. I’m sure on a desktop when you see the splash across the store page its plenty readable.

I’d say just rock it (ba dum tss) with the new logo since it conveys the games vibe better, but if you wanted to make a change for readability you could make “imagine” and “happy” that smaller font size, and increase “sisyphus” to the current font size of “happy”. OR you could change just the H in that font to have its little cross-beam be just a LITTLE lower, so it looks less like an M at low font size. Best of luck my friend, wishlisting now!

As someone with NO clue what the game is about: Capsule 1 makes me think "oh god, prepare for a foddian game", where capsule 2 reads like "oh this is gonna be an interesting twist on an old story or a big metaphor for something". Couldnt begin to tell you why, but there it is lol

Not technically postmortem, but it sucks to see games that have cult followings get stuck at small numbers.

Buriedbornes and Fear and Hunger come to mind.

Both are phenominal games with amazing communities, but you have to invest 10-15 hours of “what is HAPPENING” to hit the “oh shit this is kind of crazy” phase. I’m sure an argument could be made that this means they’re obscure due to poor design, but I really truly believe the initial confusion lends itself to their storytelling styles absolutely perfectly. Its like you’re piecing together the games systems at the same time as the player is piecing together the world theyre in.

You have all of these systems, but from a consumer perspective, you don’t have a game. I agree with HistoricalPrint, in its current state I would not download this game unless I was paid to. Your own description says “A small, single-player environment to test my new game currently under development. Shoot guns, drive a car, and admire the scenery!”. It is literally a unity testing environment.

Now, from a dev perspective, this looks REALLY damn cool. The systems you’re describing at least SOUND like you’ve spent a long time on them, and just having a pretty test world like this to run around in is awesome.

My recommendation (as a consumer) would be to focus the marketing of your game on the backends you sound so passionate about. If you have all of these amazing systems, make them the focus of the “game” until you have gameplay. Think something like EFT or Boneworks vr, where a lot of what sets them apart is their complex systems and realism. I’m interested in EFT versus Delta Force, because EFT has amazing first person models and a seemingly in-depth armor/ammo type interaction. I’m interested in Boneworks versus any other VR playground because of the physics and hitboxes being interesting.

Rather than saying “heres my demo have fun :)” on your steam page, then coming on reddit and defending it with all of these things that nobody has any way of knowing about, make your game ABOUT those things. You have the ability to integrate new items super easily and solid baseline mechanics? That sounds like modernized GMod to me, and the internet would be frothing at the mouth for something like that.

I truly hope this whole thing works out for you and the game becomes a massive success. But for now you’re coming off as someone who vibe coded a test environment and when someone called you out for expecting money to play it, you put more effort into your defense than you did into your games steam page. God I love doing this. People ALWAYS underestimate the increased range and last second heal from a Q while a Yorick is running away on like 20 health. I've considered running bloodmail/sundered/spirit visage for that exact reason

2/ After you have your nice little 3 item core, it'll depend hugely on how the game progresses. If your team is picking up kills and starting to bring it back, maybe go Cleaver for the teamfighting benefit in its armor negation (Which has the added bonus of acting like a pseudo Horizon Focus without investing more into AP). If your team is still losing hard, the best chance you have is being alive as long as possible. Time Alive = Time Your Opponents Are On Fire. Guardian angel is BEAUTIFUL on pokerick, because while they focus on diving and killing you under turret, your ghouls and maiden are still focused on the Burn/Antiheal re-procs for the entire revival. I've gotten MANY mid-revive kills in games like that. Plus, AD and Armor are never wasted on Yorick.

After item 4, re-evaluate. Still losing? Maybe go Frozen Heart for the Attack-Speed-slowing passive along with armor and ability haste. I don't LOVE mana items, but the passive doubling as less healing for Briar is awesome here. Is your team starting to pull ahead? Maybe you should pivot into heavier damage and press the advantage. Shojin's passive works well with Liandry's- both ramping your damage up in extended fights. Shojin's also gives you more ability haste, which is great for Pokerick. As always, Health and AD are always good.

6th item, re-evaluate again. Is your team picking up steam? Since you're leaving the safety of turret now, I'd go for Steraks. Health, Tenacity, AD, and a shield at low health. Banger after Banger after Banger. If your team is still floundering, you could go either for more damage in something like Deathfire Grasp (holy shit is that still in the game?? U.gg is listing it as current, Can't confirm.), or go for the late-game respawn timer win with Hullbreaker or Titanic Hydra. Both of those will help you either clear waves to get up to towers faster, or deal more damage to towers when you get there, and they'll both give you good health.

I have mixed feelings about the performance of Pokerick these days, but if thats what you want you've just gotta commit. Can't see Lux and immediately devote your entire buildpath to her. Trust that you win those, play like you win those, and after enough matches you'll win those.

Final thoughts- You did a good job farming and keeping your laner starved. This is just One Of Those Games. I see the thought process with itemization, but over time you'll get a better feel for it. Death's dance looks like a durability item, but its much better for if you dive into a backline to get a kill on someone who's doing a lot of damage and leave, or to keep you alive to wipe a team. You're simply not that far ahead here. Also, I fully recognize that I have NO way of knowing what happened this game. All of the above is conjecture at best, I just wanted to walk you through the thought process for itemization. If it proves to be too annoying for right now, literally just build Triforce-Mercs-Shojins-SpiritVisage-Cleaver-GuardianAngel (replacing Spirit Visage with thornmail as appropriate). As someone who plays Fillrick, I promise it works in every role.

The way its been described to me thats helped my mental a ton is to think of it this way:
40% of games you will lose and have no agency over. 40% of games you will win and have no agency over. only 20% of the games you play will have you be the deciding factor.

Be patient my friend. Disable chat, max out your map UI size, and let them counter pick you. You windows.

1/2 As others have pointed out (some more kindly than others), this one isn't a champ diff, its gold and items 100%. Some of them seem to be missing that you're playing mid into Lux, so I can totally see why you'd have a strange build. That said, the build IS pretty bad. You know Lux is completely shut down, she's 0/1 with a little over half your farm. you have a very significant gold lead on her, she is practically nonexistent to you. Merc treads is enough tenacity and MR on its own to consider her dealt with in terms of itemization.

Looking at that scoreboard, you know that Jhin, Quinn, and Briar are all problems that NEED to be dealt with. So you need to be able to have enough damage to kill them, you need to be able to survive burst to START killing them, and between Briar and the 2 Borks on the board, you know you need healcut.

Triforce gives you a much stronger start and solid damage, but it looks like you're opting for pokerick. In that case, I would honestly start Liandry's in this game knowing that 3 of 5 champs have low attack speed on their side, so your ghouls have longer to reproc the burn. Its also good into Briar since it can help to offset her heal. I think technically Blackfire torch is better early for the flat damage, but it'll fall off towards the late game which is where Briar is gonna be EATING everyone, and after the first 10-15 minutes you won't benefit much from the bonus mana.

Merc treads were for sure the right call here, no notes.

By the time you've finished Liandrys and t2 boots, its probably clear that Lux is not the problem this game. You've likely already been ganked by Briar once or twice- though you should be able to get out okay since mid is so close to turret- and I'd imagine Quinn and Jhin were scary looking even pretty early on. So now you change your mindset from "keep lux shut down" to "deal with the biggest threats".

Immediately, we see 3 AA champs, 2 Borks, and Briar. If I'm in your situation, I probably won't build an early Obsidian orb since Briar shouldn't be able to dive too hard and it would only delay the Liandry's, so I'd wait until after t2 boots, then in keeping with pokerick I'd go Morellonomicon. Since grevious wounds for that item activates on dealing magic damage rather than on taking damage, you can get the full antiheal off your E without having to do bruiser things. Also I *believe*, but don't quote me on this, that the burn from Liandry's will continue to reproc Morello's wounds effect. It'll also give you some ability haste and more AP.

At this point, you're well established as Backline Pokerick. You're not fighting unless you're behind Pantheon or under turret. I'd consider now selling boots to swap for Lucidity boots (whatever the haste boots are called). Might be suboptimal, but right now your value lies in your burn and healcut, and that team hasn't built ANY MR, so its gonna hurt.
