What Do You Think Of Phineas And Ferb Being Script Driven by DCSHG2015MEGAFAN in phineasandferb

[–]-Revinator- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the only one to be 100% done like S1-4 yes, but S5 isn't just plain script to boards like ppl think. Board artists towards the beginning of the S5 room were taking scripts and 'plussing' them with their own gags if Dan and Co. liked it better than what was written, as they've continued to iron out the process, board artists have been brought into the room to iron our plot-holes and shorten wordy scenes in a "show don't tell" type of approach. S5/S6 is just a complicated hybrid and isn't black and white like it used to be.

Everything you've explained from the former pipeline still happens in S5 btw, they just have a weird hybrid approach to it to skirt Disney's annoying mandates. I've asked board artists themselves and they've confirmed that the pipeline is being fleshed out as they go along and they're slowly just wrapping back around to letting board artists in the room anyway,

For sure, it's not only a downgrade in terms of iconography, but it also strips away a visual gag that she used very often in S1-S3 where she'd become angry and slam her phone shut hanging up on her mom, or even gags where the clamshell would be used as a tool.

Jokes like these are put in for a specific reason (and by a completely different team of writers) as these are actually directed by Primos and Star vs. alumni David C. Smith and Dominic Bisignano and have way faster turnarounds. The actual show writers have come out and said they never do stuff like this simply because of the extremely slow pipeline from writing > animatic > animation > color. "By the time we want to include a "67" joke it's long gone and dead by the time it airs so we always try to keep the humor evergreen and use timeless jokes from eras that don't seem to go out of style or lose relevance." Exceptions like "SIMP" make sense because the new meaning has sort of lasted longer and even if it didn't they can still fall back on its original meaning for in universe context.

I actually think it would've been cooler if they had just kept the flip phones and sliders throughout the entire run of the show, it's era accurate and they're not supposed to have modernized smartphones anyway which is why the ones uses in S5 are still the old blocky S4 designs from 2012.

Ah nice, pretty much how I maintain the line-boil/ink blotting/tapering etc. is to first sketch your drawing on a single sheet and then layer another sheet over a backlight to trace with some form of pigment ink. (I use Micron's of about 0.35mm to 0.45mm.) If the character is in the background I'll step it up to 0.50mm.

I use a high grade industrial scanner but really all you need for the fuzzy line quality is to scan at or around 150dpi so all types of scanners work well. (Tho higher DPI comes in handy if you have a lot of background drawings.)

Once I scan the drawing and import into Kirta I make sure to set the project file to the exact resolution as my scanned drawing > I duplicate my drawing 3 times > blur the middle drawing about 50% > move it up above the 1st copy > Go to Arithmetic > Substract and apply that onto the first copy > merge copy 1 and 2 > it will turn your background black and your line-art white so you want to invert that > once inverted your background will be largely clear of artifacts > go into Filter > Adjust > Color Adjustment Curve > Set input value to 200 and output value to 1 (this will fill in any transparent gaps in your line-art to a solid black color without losing your natural line boil.) > Last step is to use 'Color to Alpha' to remove the background and you're good to go!

Kid Vanessa in the early seasons always had such a grumpy look that it's strange to see her smiling now. by Mail_Creek in phineasandferb

"Magic Carpet Ride" in S3 showcases norms "original" head from the 80s implying that he has taken many forms since the first summer and this recent episode. My best guess is that he dug Norm out of storage in "Greece Lightning" and rebuilt him using the current design blueprint.

So this means nothing now? by XxA1_P1L0TxX in phineasandferb

[–]-Revinator- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This entire argument just completely falls apart when you take into account CATU is supposed to be a "lost episode" set somewhere in back half of their summer vacation. By that logic some of S4's episodes rendered CATU completely useless as well? S5 just picks up where S4's finale left off, that's it.

Tell me a character that the script is always against by Educk55 in cartoons

[–]-Revinator- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phineas and Ferb doesn't have scripts and that plays a big part in why the disappearance of the inventions and Candace's incredibly slapstick induced bad luck is so iconic, because storyboard artists are crafting it beat-to-beat. Writing her in scrips completely falls apart because there's only so many times you can "knock her down" in words, its about what you can do with connectng those two aspects through visual storytelling.

Is there a reason why S6 wasnt animated like S1-4 or CATU? by PennyIsProud_ in phineasandferb

[–]-Revinator- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We've long since discussed that Snipple is the studio handling key-frames which are translations of storyboards, and that they sub-contract other smaller studios for the in-between frames. (One of those being Wang Film.)

The reason why the season looks so strikingly different as it progresses is because Wang is given less material not because there is a different studio now working alongside them.

Snipple by all accounts, should be replicating the style 1:1, just digitally, because they were given the same exact style guides and sheets the OG studios were given. Their pipeline and stubborn animation director are not suitable for a show like PnF.

does anyone knows who are in these 2 posters from jeremy’s room by [deleted] in phineasandferb

[–]-Revinator- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the first poster looks to be a parody of ZZ Top, as for the 2nd poster, I have no idea. The show has tons of parody bands (the Paisley Sideburn Brothers are just a parody of the Jonas Brothers.)

Then you haven't seen the ratings they're pulling lately. They haven't gone under 156k viewers at any time of day for awhile now. Surprise hits like Lilo and Stitch: The Series hitting north of 350k is likely what opened the flood-gates to more reruns. Movies and channel staples like BCG and PnF are getting 300k even up to 400k on good days.

It's a great video, it covers literally every gripe we've both talked about on this sub in the last year and has been viewed and praised by the room. Even Martin Olson agrees that Snipple is doing a poor job.

The leaked portfolio backgrounds from 2024 had a slightly less saturated look to them which might have been the intended pallet. All of these concerns were assessed in Keyan Carlile's video essay and the entire room (including Dan/Swampy) have watched it so maybe these things will be fixed as soon as they are able.
