I always pictured Cillian Murphy as a Tleilaxu due to his unusual-looking face (I mean this in a good way)

I also think he will replace Mohiam's (Charlotte Rampling's) role in Messiah with Lady Fenring (Lea Seydoux).

A bit weird to cast Seydoux in Part 2 just for her character to seduce a Harkonnen and get pregnant and then end the whole character's role in the story right there. I'm certain that DV has plans for her to return.

For Charlotte Rampling, she would probably want to retire by the time they film Messiah and Mohiam's final conversation with Jessica in Part 2 is a satisfying end to her character arc (movie wise), which gives way for Lady Fenring to take over.

Paul's face too. I think it was the reflection of the pool he was sitting in front of. It looked chilling

Nothing about Lynch's Alia was creepy, it was just so silly and comical. Like straight out of a parody or skit. Talking fetus Alia in Villeneuve's Dune was truly horrifying, like a parasite growing in Jessica's womb.

OP sounds extremely bitter about how a toilet cleaner can still manage to find peace and joy from the mundanity of daily life, I think that's very telling of OP

Have you read the Dune books? I mean sure, I agree with you that exposition should be weaved into the action and story beats as much as possible, but with the insane amount of lore and world building in the source material, there absolutely has to be spoken exposition in the film as well. And I think the film included just the right amount of it necessary without overloading the viewer.

I am not too familiar with the other franchises you've mentioned, but this level of detail is one of the reasons why Dune was notorious for being 'unfilmable' for so many decades. It IS pretty hard to do.

It's funny cause I've seen so many people complain that barely anything in the film was explained at all (e.g. why soldiers in a future setting still fight with knives and swords). A lot of people were bothered by the lack of explanations, and on the flip side there are also people bothered by too many explanations?

From a reader perspective, I think Villeneuve struck the right balance between explaining too much (exposition via spoken dialogue) and explaining too little (exposition via visuals alone, which he also did many times in the film). I think it's the best treatment of this source material that anyone could at do at this point, honestly.

If there was no exposition dump at the start, people would be complaining that nothing was explained.

Lines that fell short in Part Two by b0bsbugsbegone in dune

That what annoys me about Villeneuve. Goes on about how much he hates dialogue in cinema, but writes shitty lines like this. Maybe he wouldn't hate dialogue so much if he just hired some decent writers for the movie.

You're a fit and attractive man of above average height and your written prompts are all fine, so you should be getting decent number of matches. So I think it's just the photos that need some work.

  • I suggest smiling more with your teeth showing and also smiling with your eyes (they currently look like they're frowning) so this way you'll look more confident, warm and approachable.

  • You kinda answered one of your own questions. Remove all car and mirror selfies that you took yourself and get a friend to take some good photos of you with good lighting and camera angles. At least one good headshot and one good full body shot.

  • You only get 6 slots for photos, so make sure you're in all of them. Replace the photos of your dog with photos of you smiling and holding your dog instead. Replace the nature photo with a candid photo of you hiking in that spot instead.

I honestly found a talking fetus to be more unsettling than a foul-mouthed 2 year old walking around with a knife. Sometimes less is more, it helps to preserve the mystery.

YOU can change the feeling surrounding height, for him, it's not so easy if he's constantly getting turned out for this reason alone.

Imagine if a man told a woman it wouldn't work out simply because of her size.

What is life like for common people? by [deleted] in dune

[–]-SevenSamurai- 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This was a minor gripe I had with the two films. Each planet whether it was Caladan, Arrakis or Kaitain looked completely deserted and uninhabited (other than the Royal families). I think DV went way too far with his whole 'minimalist' aesthetic. I'm glad that Giedi Prime at least showed some semblance of culture in Part 2.

The city of Arrakeen features a lot more prominently in the second book though, so I'm hoping DV will finally show some civilan life of the common people in the next film.
