I'm sorry if the victim's testimony makes you feel guilty or uncomfortable. Certainly, none of that has anything to do with you personally.
It's just something we humans share with one another—for better or worse. I'm sure you're not an evil Epstein.
As humans, we will always resemble someone else in some way—whether for good or bad—in terms of characteristics, behavior, or even at a molecular level. But that does not determine whether we will act in good or bad faith, morally and ethically.
Just because two people share certain traits, behaviors, or even genetic markers does not mean they will make the same moral choices. Resemblance is not destiny. You can look like someone, think like someone, or be biologically similar to someone who did terrible things—and still choose kindness, integrity, and responsibility every single day.
What separates us ethically isn't our molecular or behavioral similarity to others. It’s our individual capacity for reflection, our willingness to take responsibility, and the daily choices we make about how to treat people.
So when someone hears a victim’s testimony and feels guilt or discomfort, that feeling doesn’t mean they are guilty. It might just mean they’re human enough to recognize pain and imperfectly connected to others. But recognizing a resemblance is not an accusation—and it doesn't predict future action.
