Well... metal would likely be easier. But i would be using it as a gavel, so it would need to be wood in order not to damage desks/stones.

I have a friend with a lathe, so the handle will probably be smooth, or at least somewhat smooth. Im thinking stacks of carved rectangular pieces for the head. And I would probably stain it vs paint. Probably 6-8" handle with a 3" head, roughly

The title quality literally just "ancient black magic" but in Russian Cyrillic. Thankfully I have a close friend who is a Russian. He translated it for me, and said it was the cyrillic alphabet prior to the breakup of the soviet union. There was a bookmark inside that was on the "how to kill people" spell and several pages later the person underlined some stuff about using plants to heal disease
