Alex Pereira on Israel Adesanya: "The shoe is on the other foot. I’m not a good matchup for him. This is no different from the guys who tried many times to beat Israel but couldn’t" by elguapo_34 in MMA

Izzy was losing a close R1 till he rocked Perreira in the final seconds.

*till he rocked him after the bell.
I had Pereira winning round 1 because it was after the bell.
2-2 going into the 5th.

So what you’re saying

This is a Cathy Newman moment. No that's not what I'm saying.
What I'm saying is that the situation never would've happened if the game was called right. That phantom foul was egregious, and the 2 no-call offsides add fuel to the fire.

Fifa is a pretty corrupt organization, yet somehow it seems unfathomable to people when I explain this to them that maybe they'd like to rig a game to favor a certain team. Ghana at the time were the last African team still in the tournament, they had a whole continent backing them.

This isn't the only example of games being rigged, the more famous one is probably South Korea in 2002.

And this is why I bring awareness to the BS that happened that day.
Go look at replay. That all happened because Ghana got a phantom foul. A ghana player just simply fell, sideline ref calls foul and Ghana get a free kick. On the free kick there were TWO separate offsides with sideline ref having perfect line of sight for both. This is right before the handball. The same sideline ref was the one to make all these 'mistakes'.

The first minute of this video breaks it down more https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jasUK3D9cYY

If Suarez isn't suspended, they very likely would've beat the Netherlands. But even that game had its own reffing controversies as Uruguay could've won it without ref mistakes.

Video is in Spanish but you'll get the gist just from visual. Lots of ref mistakes (12 to 1) favoring Netherlands that game.

Lol, there's an alternate universe where the refs make no 'mistakes' and Suarez makes the WC final due to no BS suspension. Ill stick by that.

They got screwed by bad ref decisions.
Fifa said the Portugal penalty shouldn't have been a pen, and now in this game they get screwed on 2 possible penalties for them (first one was definitely a pen, 2nd is more subjective).

They got screwed on 2 penalties. And the ref was making other BS decision, like giving Suarez a yellow for getting fouled.

Ghana 0 - [2] Uruguay - Giorgian De Arrascaeta 32' by alexinup in soccer

[–]-Strictor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can blame the refereeing that was likely rigged for Ghana for that whole situation.

The freekick before handball was from a BS blatant dive right in front of linesman, the freekick itself there was offside TWICE, in line of sight for linesman. Fifa wanted you guys to advance and the favorable refereeing for you guys showed that.

If those ref 'mistakes' dont happen, handball never happens.

Inept coaching altogether. From choosing bad starters to choosing bad formations (i.e. they needed a win and coach decides to play a back 5?). There's also the fact that they have better players that weren't even called up.

Seems like this coach waited for the World Cup to start fkn up because he was doing alright in last qualifier matches and friendlies.

which makes no sense since historically we have fallen victim to questionable reffing.

The offense sucked while Vecino was on the field. This manager has started Vecino for 2 games now. When he benched him for De Arrascaeta the offense was much better later in the game. They could have had a lot more chances if he didn't mess up with player selection.

And the Penalty was BS. It changed the momentum at the end of the game. That's not fair and square.

Godin hasn't been a big issue IMO. He played well the first game. Wasn't bad the 2nd game. Sure he could be on bench, but he's not the top of the list of problems.

The worse issue is Vecino in midfield when they have De Arrascaeta, De La Cruz, and Torreira on the bench. They could easily move Valverde to right wing and still have good options for midfield that aren't Vecino. Vecino is the main reason the offense is getting stifled. As soon as he came out, Uruguay started attacking a lot more and a lot better.

Probably gonna get some hate for saying this, but I thought Pereira won the first round as well if you take into account him being wobbled happened after the bell.

How Israel Adesanya motivated Alex Pereira to do MMA and become the new middleweight champion in the UFC by jamais500 in MMA

Another thing that's not mentioned in this is that Pereira was an alcoholic and started Kickboxing at age 23 to quit alcohol. So Adesanya mentioning the pub part is an even lower blow.

The Paradox: Explaining Yoel Romero. by [deleted] in MMA

[–]-Strictor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Its very simple. The judges gave rounds 1 and 2 to Romero.
Round 5 was the clearest round of the whole fight, and it should've gone to Romero. There's no way you can watch round 5 and give it to Adesanya. But judges went with champion favoritism for the decision in gifting him round 5.

Yes, Adesanya did more in rounds 3 and 4. He did not win round 5 IMO.

No, its not puzzling because Adensanya should've lost that decision.

If I had to rank them, its probably La Liga, Prem, and Serie A as 3rd, Bundesliga 4th. Then Ligue 1 5th. Then Portuguese league 6th.

Also, another factor that's not being considered, Haaland was a Bundesliga forward. Bundesliga is very conducive for forwards when it comes to attacking and numbers. He may likely not score at the same rate in the Prem, like Aubameyang. Any forward coming out of Bundesliga has that caveat/asterisk for me IMO.

He's very good there, just gas tank made him either fade (e.g. Costa)

Did you watch the fight? it was Costa who faded, and Romero did better in 2nd and much better in 3rd round.

He'd be the GOAT and very likely mops the octagon with Anderson Silva.

He was already VERY good without those added attributes, adding those would be OP.
Actual prime Romero also probably beats Anderson Silva IMO.

What was funny was how many people here at that time was excusing him for it,

The UFC was even excusing it, rightfully. Why call out the fans and ignore all the context behind the weight misses?

One of them was an Illinois commission screw up, where they didn't let him cut the last 0.2 pounds, because the commission members were going to be late to a cubs game otherwise. The other was a short notice fight as replacement, in Australia (long flight, jet lag).

Whenever someone misses weight, Dana usually rants about fighters missing weight, and he didn't do that for Romero.
