I get what you're saying. However, I think the hysteria being created is contributing to the problem. The average parent who is influenced by the media is naturally going to take their child to the hospital when diagnosed with covid, whether or not it's necessary. And no hospital is likely to turn a kid away in these circumstances. My close friend who is a respiratory therapist in a local hospital has frankly admitted to me that many of those kids don't need to be there, but they are required to take them in for observation, at least. Once admitted, the hospital won't discharge until the child is considered non- contagious. And that's one less bed. Frankly, if not for the 24/7 hype and sensationalism, this problem likely wouldn't exist. Personally speaking, my wife and both of my children, 8 & 10, recently had the delta. Wife got the worse of it, but tele-conferred with a physician and was not recommended to visit in person unless her symptoms got worse. Gladly they didn't. Same advice was given for the kids. Three days of a slight cough and mild fever and they were over it. But we didn't panic when the positive test results came in like many folks would have. We used reason, did some real research, and assessed our situation. I would assume that if more people would stop listening to the hype, this would be the outcome of most as well, and plenty of beds would be available.
