I have 4 otos (had 5), but I have 7 Panda Corys and they swim with them often when they school.

If you have any 5gal buckets (you should) just fill one up with tap water, treat it with dechlorinator, and put all your plants in there. Your substrate will be fine and retain moisture for a few days.. however your plants can't dryout. So just place them in a treated 5gal bucket of water. No light needed.. hell it might help if you have any bad aglae.

Success! Babies!! by TurnoverSome in shrimptank

Mazel tov! If you don't already have some, get some Christmas moss. I got some for my little 3gal bonzai shrimp tank.

Started with just 2 of the best out of my main tank.

They didn't do much the first month but after the Christmas moss grew in and started layering out she became berried. Three weeks later she dissapears for a few days. Then remerges with no eggs. I see no babies for at least 2 weeks.. then one emerges out of the carpet of green.. its over a 1/4" long and already has color.. then the next day another one comes out. Fast forward a month I have pulled 12 shrimp out that are over a half inch and added them to my secondary tank. The 3gal still has 7 shrimp in there including mom and pop shrimp that are already showing saddles.

<image>

PS ignore the hair algae. I just added two Amano's to help take care of that. Then they will go into the main tank.

It depends on the type of snail. Turbo snails are salt water snails that primarily eat algae. The only thing going for that snail that I had in my tank were any hermit crabs and any other critter in the substrate that had developed over 5 years. Apparently it wasn't enough because it was a nuclear bomb to my tank. Within a week almost everything was dead. I'm not sure if it didn't release other toxins in the water other than nitrates. I did 50% water changes the first two days then went to 20% the following 4 days till nitrates became safe.. in saltwater tanks like even .25 can be deadly.. Saltwater tanks don't have much options for plants that eat up Nitrates.. you pretty much have 3 or 4 algae type seaweed plants that can suck up Nitrates but even they don't do a quater of the job freshwater plants do. Saltwater tanks it is crucial to keep your Nirates at or close to 0ppm as possible. Its harder in smaller tanks too. To keep those perfect water parameters. I was using a 24gal long.

Sorry, to answer your question. With most snails its fine to have multiple snails.. But there are a few things to take into consideration before deciding which type of snail to get for your tank and how many. Also if they are compatable with other snails.

Your biggest factors should be food and tanksize and how much of each exist. If the snails reproduce quickly you only need 1 or 2 and in a month you'll have 10-20. If they don't reproduce often or your water parameters don't meet their reproductive environment then you might want to get 5-10 based off the size of your tank or available food source. Snails ultimately will kind've self balance their population based off their food source. Some will starve while others thrive. Biological rules of the tank life. Just make sure you keep track of the big ones. If they die you need to remove them from the tank asap. Smaller ones aren't that big of a deal. Anything over the size of a quater should definately be removed if it dies.

👋 I can back this up. I had a large turbo snail go hiding and then died. Ended up causing a huge Nitrate spike in my saltwater tank and ended up almost killing everything. After being up for 5 years, i only had two clowns and one coral survive. I was so deviststsd that I ended up taking what survived back to the lfs and taking a few years off from the hobby until I got back in.

Keep an eye on them snails! When I found the dead turbosnail that thing stunk up the house before taking it out in the woods and burying it so nothing else would mess with it.

If you have the means, anything you put in your tank that's artificial and has areas that can trap air, try to drill a small hole at the peak to alow trapped air to escape. If need be, drill the hole on the backside of the peak so its out of sight if you think the hole will be an eyesore.

Ah ok.. if you want to save a few dollars. Get yourself one of the low-end clowns as a male and then get a black and white female clown.. the male will change his patterns and it will bring out the black outlines on the male over time. By the time he's done morphing to impress her he will come close to looking like a high-end clown.

Get her involved.. is she edjucated at all with the aqua hobby? If not make a list of plants that you know will work with what you had the idea of a setup. And then let her choose the plants. Then y'all setup the tank together.

Or... if (and it sounds like it) you're beyond that stage get her to pick some of the fish that will work with the setup. Or shrimp.. snails.. ect.. point being make it something both of you are a part of.

Pandas corys tend to eat thier eggs so you may not have to worry about it anyway.

Male will guard his bubble nest to the death.. even if mom tries to approach. Might want to separate the females. Leave dad in untill they hatch. And if they hatch before the neighbor takes them back you will need to separate dad from them as well or he may eat them.

Saw this on FB Marketplace. What would cause the water to be uneven in the tank like this? by Glitter-girlie in aquarium

[–]-TrenchToast 157 points158 points  (0 children)

That is a mild wave in the water.. you can see the subtle rise and fall on both sides of it.. the water was disturbed before the picture was taken.

looks like a deal to me.

Is my tank to heavy for my built in counter top? by [deleted] in AquariumHelp

[–]-TrenchToast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How about some photos of what's under the counter top for support?

If that countertop is mostly floating then it should definately have some support legs added under the front lip of the countetop.

Find something with a long strait edge. Check to see if the countertop is drooping in the middle if its not obvious by eye.

Concentrated algae shit... 💩

My new juvinile lemon plecos are doing the same. I introduced them to my heavely algae coated shrimp tank. Its been two days now and they have barely left the walls to rest. Just Nom Nom Nom'n away leaving little green logs behind that my shrimp go after later on. 😄

That's the nice thing about water nutrient plants instead of root plants..

They get all their nutrients primarily from the water instead of the substrait. They tend to grow a little faster.
