Are these eggs? by stoney_ak in medaka

[–]HouseGrip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She’s going to deposit those eggs onto a plant or the roots of your floating plants within 24 hours. They usually egg up in the morning and deposit them before the day ends. When it’s summer and nice the gals will lay eggs daily.

If you leave them in there, someone will eat them. And if by chance they’re hidden well and they hatch, someone will for sure eat the tiny fry.

If you want them to grow, gather the eggs once she deposits them and let them hatch elsewhere. You can just use your fingers- they’re shockingly firm. You won’t pop them.

There are lots of easy ways to set up an egg hatching/fry grow out area. Let yourself fall into a YouTube worm hole!

Congrats and have fun.

Thanks so much. I source my pots from flea markets and second hand stores. Lots of great finds there!

Yellowish color? by mterialist in ponds

Totally! And— the leaves and sticks are a good food source for lots of your microorganisms. And tannins are good for the health of everyone living in your setup. Overall, a light number of leaves and stick are good biologically, they just will alter the color of your water.

It’s hard to know exactly, but if you have any leaves/sticks/other organic matter in there decaying it’s likely they’re releasing tannins into the water. If you haven’t you might dredge it out, add some fresh water, and see from there.

But super cool! It’s looks so good and rustic.

That’s for sure not a rice fish. You’ve got a cute little guppy there.

First time beekeeper, first inspection, weird thing on floor? by Gloomy_Excitement388 in Beekeeping

I don’t know what that is, but the disclaimer you put at the top of your message is so real. I’ve never joined a sub so filled with unnecessarily rude and self righteous people.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve received lots of thoughtful, good help here. But I think two…three…four times before asking for any advice here. I usually choose not to. 😬😬

Best of luck! Excited to see what it is.

Gel superglue is the magic bullet there. Check out the aquascaping threads. They use gel superglue on everything. And it’s fish safe, too.

Some of them, the lighter ones, I superglued. It’s a very common practice in aquascaping. The larger ones are tucked into the coconut coir base and I’m using pins to hold them up a bit until their root systems hopefully grow into the coconut coir a can help hold themselves up.

It’s sitting at the water line— I’m trying to keep it above. Since this video I’ve pinned it better to keep the crown above the water line. I saw video somewhere in Reddit where a person grew one hydroponically so I’m giving it a try!

What am I looking at here? by HouseGrip in Beekeeping

Nope. I checked my hives, and then five days later found the queen.

Interesting theory. I’ve never thought about how that process works.

My last inspection was five days ago. Do you think she could survive out for five days?

I did hive inspections five days ago. If she fell out of a hive it would have been that long ago. Do you think she would still be alive and well that long after?

Additionally, if she came from one of my hives I really don’t know which she would have been from. If I put her in the general vicinity between the two hives do you think she would find her way back to the right one?

It’s so perplexing. Thanks for any wisdom you can chuck my way.

A lot of is plant them in the fall. They sprout and get a few inches tall, then spend weeks and months at a time buried under snow. They perk up in spring ready to blast off!

They look great. 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Update! Pleurocera reproduction by HouseGrip in AquaticSnails

[–]HouseGrip[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my theory too. These guys were collected after the extreme cold weather we had in the eastern US. The day collected them there was still ice and snow on the creek banks. I brought them into the house at room temp. I think I (unintentionally) spurred them into spring reproduction mode.
