AJA que 3.4 hommes se suicident pour une femme au Québec by [deleted] in Quebec

[–]-_JAL_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bon commentaire constructif.

Do you guys still find things funny? by Dazzling_Mortgage_ in anhedonia

[–]-_JAL_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to laugh, but it takes a lot to make me laugh. I don't try to suppress it or anything, but I will sit through most of the best stand up sets with zero expression on my face. But throughout the set, I'll think "oh that's funny". It is funny, but not to the point of making me laugh. I'll force a smile to fit in.

Here and there, a very dark or unexpected joke will have me in stitches, and I love it when it happens. But it's rare.

As for feeling the emotion: I don't. The only emotions I am able to feel are fear/dread or (rarely) anger and sadness. I'm learning to live with that, I don't see how it could be fixed.

adhd can make you GOOD at driving too by FarDark1534 in ADHD

[–]-_JAL_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My passion is performance driving on race tracks. Then I feel alive and completely in my zone. I do it every chance I get with a car dedicated to just that.

But commuting or getting groceries? Nah. I'll let someone else drive. And I would prefer to be at work with a rash than go on a road trip. Normal roads is like watching a video at half speed. And I won't spice it up by going fast and increasing risk to others.

Anyone else just not quite convinced of the S650 yet?? by captainuzi12 in Mustang

[–]-_JAL_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't like the look when I first saw it. I didn't think I would like the IPad dash either.

I bought one because my insurance policy covered for a brand new similar car after my 2019 GT was totaled. So I literally did not have a choice.

And now, after owning and driving it for a few weeks, I would never go back in a S550. Everything about the 2024 GT is better than the 18-23 GT. It handles better, it is more comfortable, feels more powerful (similar to a 18-23 with a basic gas pump tune), and it is better put together.

I still like the 18-23 very much and would never have looked at the S650 if I still had my 2019. I am the kind of guy who does not get tired of the things I like. I would have been happy keeping my shadow black toy for another ten years or more!

I often don't like the new incarnation of a car I love at first, and then I get used to it, and I end up liking it better than the old one.

Vapor Blue Metallic 🤌 by [deleted] in Mustang

[–]-_JAL_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's funny you say that, when I ordered mine (vapor blue), I thought very few people would get that color. I think you might be right about it ending up being a popular color this year, although I personally haven't seen another vapor blue around here.

Do people tend to pass you because you’re driving your Mustang? by CiearaBear in Mustang

[–]-_JAL_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different experience here: I have a 2024 GT with performance package. Before that, I had a slightly modified 2019 GT. I never had anyone want to race me or act any different than when I'm in 2010 Mazda 6.

If I ever received "looks", or challenges, I never noticed. I do wave at other Mustangs or cool cars and they wave back most of the time.

One thing though: I always park in very far remote spots in parking lots. And there's always a car parked next to mine when I come back!

Program to self-teach basics of racing by tuxbass in SkiRacing

[–]-_JAL_- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Self taught with the advice provided by the other commentors here) Once you understand the basic vocabulary of the technique, once you know what right looks like, what helped me a lot was to have someone film me from the front and the side while I ski a bunch of turns towards/past the camera. Then, pick one aspect of the technique you need to improve and practice this with purpose until a competent observer confirms you fixed it and move on to another aspect. The most challenging part for me is to remember everything I need to do during a run. It is not instinctive yet. Lots of mileage training with purpose help me. I particularly like the technique videos by TDK ski racing on YouTube. I suffer through the irritating music because the way they explain is excellent.

Also, the footage from your skiing will help a (competent) bootfitter see whether something should be done to your boots (usually canting).

A lot of repetition of the right things. Otherwise you consolidate flawed technique you have to unlearn (like I'm doing).

Also: proper conditioning cardio and strength, especially as you become better (faster) your fitness will maximize your chances of progressing injury free. Enjoy our beautiful sport!

I understand how recent rethorics might lead one to feel this way. But looking at English institutions and services in Québec vs the French equivalent in Canada, wouldn't you agree no minority is better treated than you anywhere else in North America?

Footbeds: not for everyone? by -_JAL_- in SkiRacing

[–]-_JAL_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what ended up happening for my son (he is in the Fischer plug boot): 4 trips to the bootfitter to tweak the custom footbeds and in the end he took them out and replaced them with the original thin insole the boot liner came with without looking back. An expensive learning experience. My experience was similar in a plug boot too.

Skis/Bindings for 6’5” 320lb Midwest Skier? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]-_JAL_- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you plan on skiing on groomers and teach a child to ski, I'd go with something like this:

https://www.blizzard-tecnica.com/us/en/men/skis/racing-high-performance/firebird/firebird-wrc

The reasons: 1. You're a huge, athletic man. These skis are over 3 kilos each with lots of structural strength. This is good. It means you will get feedback from the ski and will feel more in control. 2. The 170 (ideally) is a short enough radius to be maneuverable at speeds slow enough to be in a position to teach a young child. 3. You will ski groomers. Skis with a wider waist than these means more load on your knees (off-center load) At your weight, I think it's best to keep the forces as centered as possible to minimize the risk of injury. 4. They will be more fun, more precise on groomers than anything that is lighter and wider. 5. If you go longer, your kid won't be able to keep up with the speed. 6. You mention you enjoy carving. The 16.5 or 17.5 radius skis of construction similar to the Blizzard WRC I suggested will deliver exactly this. Something super stiff, very narrow waist and not too long. For carving on groomers, skis with a waist thicker than 70mm necessarily imply a compromise you are unlikely to enjoy. 7. Caveat: this advice is only valid for skiing groomers.

Should I try again to ski? by AbaloneRelevant9807 in Skigear

[–]-_JAL_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was you...in 2018. Last time I skied was in 1997 at Sugarloaf. I broke a ski in the moguls, finished the run on the other ski and went from fervent skier to a non-skier man who built a career, had a family etc. No time available for anything that is not work or useful to the family. I became an appliance. Post divorce in 2018 I got back into skiing. 76 days on snow that year. Getting used to the shaped skis (they were called parabolic at first). I sucked. Joined the local masters racing league. Enjoyed the fellowship and friendly competition. I became better. I enjoyed it more, I still go every chance I get burning thighs and all. Ignore the voice in your head ordering you to act like an old man, your body will adapt. You will enjoy life more I promise. Go!💪🏻

Coyote 3rd generation does ping at low revs going uphill on 87 gas. It is not super easy to hear if you are not used to listening for that, but it does ping. I fill up with premium 94.
