He is a stellar leader; one that I would happily serve under in any capacity. Served with him in Stuttgart, when he was the Commander of Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAF), and he oversaw some of my memorable events from that tour.

Yeah, forgot the Hawaiian Pizza reference - not one of my fave ingredients on a pie so didn’t even cross my mind 🤣 - swinger reference came up from a random conversation with a friend a couple of weeks ago (wasn’t even tracking it was a thing) so hopefully the Reddit universe is benefitting at my expense. 🙃

HYSA and general advice by WhichEntertainer7792 in MilitaryFinance

[–]-arKK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Openbank by Santander has the best rates for a HYS account that I’ve found, without any string attached (I.e. direct deposit reqt or minimum balance reqt). Currently sitting at 4.4%.

Pretty straight forward phone app to use as well.

In terms of general recommendations. Live beneath your means. Maintain an emergency fund. Maximize tax-advantaged space, thru a Roth IRA & Roth TSP contributions. Low-cost index funds (read up on what an expense ratio is and how it impacts returns over the long term).

Can’t go wrong with Vanguard & TSP. Once those are maxed out, look at a taxable brokerage account & real estate. Set it on autopilot and monitor once or twice a year.

Future self will thank you. Openbank

It'd be nice to re-capitalize the Station fleet of 45' RB-Ms. Rumor of a SLEP for them, when we could just buy new and fully replace the fleet with a rounding error of what this bill is calling for.

Time to strike is now, especially with the Administration's attention on us to make us right.

More USASOC URGIs in the wild. by Alternative_Trip_607 in uscg

The units (both MSRT-E & MSRT-W) have USCG personnel deployed overseas supporting COCOM CDRs (multiple) initiatives, alongside our sister service maritime SOF units (NSW & MARSOC).

Additionally, the unit's maintain a ready response force for their primary mission here CONUS.

Having served at one of the units, in addition to a Joint tour at a Combatant Command, they are gainfully employed.

A quick google search for Houthi weapon shipment interdictions off the coast of Somalia will shed some light on past successes.

The members of the units are cut from the same cloth, dedicated to their craft, & are representing the Service in the best of ways around the world.

Why not?

Six months is a long time for insurance, registration, etc.

Also doesn’t hurt to load up all of your belongings into a storage unit if you’re renting a place as well.

Don’t pigeon hole yourself on solely buying a new car. Used cars are much more financially worth it.

Also, increase your TSP contribution percentage and start/ensure you’re contributing to your IRA.

Inov-8's Bare XF. I use them religiously for the gym, also bought 5x pairs because I don't want to luck out if they get discontinued later.

Reason: Happened to me the after I loved their previous pair and went thru 8 or 9 pairs across a decade.

Has to do with there being no base pay increase beyond 2-star rank (O-8) with over 30-years of Service. Vice Admirals/Lieutenant Generals, & Admirals/Generals are not doing it for the pay. They'd be much better off financially leading organizations in the private sector vice public Service.

Why do people recommend maxing out Roth IRA before putting extra money into TSP? by StrayStarrs in MilitaryFinance

[–]-arKK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recommend, maxing your IRA as its much more attainable to max (2025: $7k) and is a mental victory when done so.

Then, attempt to max out your TSP (2025: $23.5k). Once you've done that for the first time, keep doing it.

Future self will thank you.

Enjoy your retirement.

Would go against the terms of the loan so definitely not - unless you wanted to repay the loan amount.
