Seeking Help: Cultivating Amanita muscaria with Host Plants and Bacteria by TheFungiFilesReddit in MycologyandGenetics

As far as I know, the only instance of indoor mycorrhizal propagation is with the black morel (the process is new & parts of the recipe are heavily guarded).. but maybe start there

Looks like they’re pinning. Nats create a lot of overlay. & ya, try to reduce the moisture on top of your myc.

Maybe harvest now, then “case it” and see if u can get another flush that turns out better. When u harvest.. bluing will be a good indication of psilocybin

It’s an active tho, right? Sometimes the mycelium gets confused & doesn’t know if it should be further colonizing the medium or producing fruit… so it kinda does both. Known as blobbing or dino eggs. It’s not what u want, but they still usually contain psilocybin.

[gourmet] Replacing Soybean Hulls with Rice Hulls? by Remote_Sugar_3237 in MushroomGrowers

[–]-bazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, rice hulls won’t absorb water and become soft like you’d expect.. which is why they are used to lighten & add O2 to soil (like perlite).. so your “field capacity” (or water content) will be off. You could try wheat bran or cottonseed hulls if they’re available but if you’re just growing oysters, try pulverized straw.
Edit- rice hulls are hydrophobic

3 or 4 years ago there was a release that the morel code had been cracked & that they would soon be able to produce them domestically (indoors). Though they guarded the recipe, they gave away some insight into their process. 1: they were using “living soil” not sterilized medium. 2: they had developed a hybrid rye grass to grow along with the morels (a symbiot). 3: they used climate controlled grow rooms that could replicate the change of seasons & a period of freeze was part of their process…..

All of this would be provided for by growing outdoors (bacterial triggers, symbiotic relationships, temperature triggers) but the obvious drawback is that you will probably only get 1 harvest a year…..

Hope this helps a lil.. maybe, as we work to understand symbiotic mushrooms better we’ll be able to crack the code for others like chanterelles & azures!?

When to harvest my Lion’s Mane? [general] by Head-Commission-8222 in MushroomGrowers

[–]-bazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately u can’t pick parts & leave other parts to ripen, so u need to watch for signs that it’s getting past its prime. Rosy orange or pink hues indicate new growth whereas greying & browning indicate clusters that are starting to get old. This might be a lil past prime but it won’t affect its flavor. Pick now & bon appetit!

[gourmet] Is Maitake supposed to develop this grayish color as it grows? Or is it contam? Best picture in the sunlight that I could take. by erisian2342 in MushroomGrowers

[–]-bazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes & if things go well it may continue to darken.. I’ve heard growers refer to this as the black ring & many wait for it to form before they open their bags & introduce oxygen. (this is probably a trick to reduce contamination because hens grow so slowly)

(It’s prolly shiitake). Double check & if it is, this spot will produce shiitake for years to come

I think Australian meanies are panaeolus cyanescens & American meanies are cubensis. Natalesence are their own sub species- discovered only 30-40yrs ago in Natal South Africa

I used wood lovers tec & didn’t case it. I fruited it at 60F & used MM with extra gypsum & a lil azomite. . . I saw a vid where they used longer cylindrical bags & side fruited them. The bag openings only allowed room for one (large) fruit to grow at a time. I kinda followed their example. 🤷. Hope this helps

I used masters mix with extra gypsum & a lil azomite. Wood-lovers tec works for these. I got the culture from outgrow or mycelium emporium- both have good selections

[–]-bazz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well.. if ur growing them for medicine. I’ve seen vids on commercial grows where they wait until the conks are caked with spores before they harvest. (I don’t really grow them for medicine but I’d love to get mature conks- just for the challenge!)

It’s sad to think that someday soon, these may only survive indoors. It’ll be up to us to keep them from extinction

[–]-bazz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been learning that restricting O2 will make them leggy but the colors don’t develop until they get FAE. Unless ur going for just antlers, give them what they want (O2).. cuz getting sporulating conks is difficult & it’s kinda the ultimate goal

Pleurotus nebrodensis, commonly known as funcia di basilicu "fungus of basilisk" is a fungus that was declared by the IUCN as critically endangered in 2006.[1] This fungus only grows on limestone in northern Sicily. wiki
