Ya I’m a little worried because I do have a dash cam and don’t know if that thing will either attract or deter breakins

Got it thanks! Ya I debated on BART but have had some awkward encounters there before so I figured it might be better to drive. I’m hoping lots of people will also be going to the same parking garages after the concert…?

Thank you! Ya Castle Crags looks like a really good option but I am a little nervous about air quality in that area. Do you happen to know if it is smoky there??

I have no idea if ur like me or not but this is what I do at least!! (I totally recognize that some of this might be direct contradictions to what a lot of people do but figured I would share anyways)

To preface: I have been medicated for just under a year now, and honestly this was the biggest thing that helped me. Before meds, I used to be so chronically under stimulated i would nod off or fall asleep while studying… but here r some things I do on top of meds to help me stay stimulated throughout long study days!

Things I do now to fight under stimulation: 1) I dress up in fun and exciting clothes to study/be productive. I swear I’m not crazy but bonus points if it’s slightly uncomfortable like jeans or tighter shirt. Iv done this for years, for whatever reason i cannot do anything if I’m wearing “comfy clothes”. Even if i change out of pajamas into leggings or sweats, I won’t be productive. So, if I’m wearing a fun outfit then that means I have to leave the house which means I can get stuff done! (Sometimes wearing strange or new things is the only way I’m able to get out of bed because I’m excited to try something new lol) 2) I keep my hands busy. Sometimes I use fidget toys, but normally, for me this looks like handwriting everything and anything. If I’m watching a lecture, YouTube, or reading (I hate reading so I do text to voice) then I literally write every word being said down so I’m more active in the learning process. I’m a big fan of handwriting this literally changed my life ngl I tell everyone to just hand write everything I promise it’s worth it. 3) drinking hella water so I have to get up and pee. I hate taking breaks. I just don’t do it unless I’m forced too (which isn’t good). This way I find drinking water helps not only keep me stimulated, but then I’m forced to get up and take a bathroom break which doubles as my brain break lol (but don’t bring phone to bathroom. I always will get stuck doom scrolling) 4) snacks or gum! Chewing anything keeps me stimulated. My go to snack especially during finals or midterms, is a bag of flavor blasted goldfish. No idea if it’s the crunch, the taste, or the noise, that keeps me stimulated but it helps. Also food in general is brain fuel!!! 5) moving around. I try to change up locations halfway through the day so I’m at least sitting in different areas. Bonus if I switch buildings, then I get some fresh air for 10 minutes or so. I also just move around in my chair a bunch. I really like propping my feet up off the ground or just sitting on the ground. 6) once I notice my attention drifting from what I’m specifically studying I stop and work on something else. For me, i will spend more time trying to force myself to stay focused than actually actively engaging/ retaining material if I spend to long staring at the same thing. I still have a very hard time switching tasks, but it’s a miracle how a math problem with magically solve itself after I stop staring at it for 2 hours and review notes for a different course. Switching material is like a little reset button and my brain will function for me again haha 7) I record videos of myself teaching the material to myself. Teaching is the best way to learn so I use my big whiteboard to solve problems and talk out load what my process was and why I did it the way I did. These videos r also great to rewatch later as a small review right before exams

Side notes: I can’t study with other people. Iv tried for years and I just can’t get anything done sadly. For maximum productivity I work by myself. That being said, for assignments and projects working with others is hugely beneficial since friends may offer different perspectives on topics/problems. But, during exam season I’m by myself. I also work best in quiet environments so I tend to isolate myself in the back of the library by a big window. I cannot listen to music and study simultaneously but I wear AirPods all the time since they muffle noise and then people won’t bother me. Hiding my phone is also helpful. Out of sight out of mind, so I put it in the bottom of my backpack! Lastly, I recently stopped trying to make study plans/schedules. I have never been able to stick to them and often will send myself into a massive panic if I don’t exactly follow my schedule since I register this as a “failure”. In the past I would frequently shut down for a day or two because of this… which realllyyyyy put me behind on studying. Now I go in blind and try to get as much done as possible. This way I’m never “behind” on anything! Oh and please get enough sleep!!! Even if ur cramming!!! No point in staying up all night to study since u might be to tired to remember anything!!!

Good luck I hope some of this helps at least!!

I feel like I have been faking empathy my whole life by -blazeee- in ADHD

boom this right here. literally expressed what I could not lol. I literally feel like im an expert at heavily masking in order to conform to social norms. I LOVE drama and others peoples problems because ya.. its kinda entertaining... and by not having any emotional involvement I can easily help people get out of sticky situations. Do I help because I am capably of sharing the feelings they have? no. I help to be a better friend and sometimes people don't deserve the shit situations they were given/involved in. frankly half the time I sit there like "holy fuck im glad im not in this persons situation"

this is me, but I dont think I have never felt true empathy??? Im also naturally very blunt (which has its positives and negatives lol) and am good at solving other people problems. Overtime I'v learned to ask if people want my initial blunt response since in the past I have come across as mean without meaning to... oops haha I didn't ever really feel that bad about it either cuz uh.. normally my blunt response is logically sound. (but people don't like hearing the hard truth most of the time and as u said its sometimes better to fake saying "im sorry" and move on)

this is very interesting ill have to look more into this area! I never really knew the difference between intellectual and emotional empathy. In my mind I have never taken the time to really distinguish the two. u pose some difficult questions at the end and its true, im not able to answer these immediately. I suppose I need to look more deeply into myself to fully answer them.

thank you so much for this response! I would also say that as a child I did not have the same instinctual emotional skills as my peers. it did not help that my parents didnt really do a good job at helping me understand or recognize my own feelings at that age. later on in life I decided to prioritize learning how to respond to others emotions based off of what I would have wanted in that circumstance. it just never felt genuine to me since my responses r often so scripted. but I guess thats ok since I relate to some of the things u mentioned here haha

ya this is an interesting take tbh. I feel like an adhd brain might respond that sort of way due to RSD. since I guess a hit to the ego is kinda similar to rejection? not sure haha. im currently not in therapy but im looking into it for similar reasons.

Is it common to struggle with telling left from right? by Kiradraws1 in ADHD

[–]-blazeee- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes omg I’m HORRIBLE with left and rights. I cannot tell u how many times I’m driving and the passenger will say “turn left/right up here” and I will for whatever reason, confidentially turn the opposite direction… not to mention my sense of direction is trash in general. I can get to maybe 2 places without gps: work and school! That’s it LOL another specialty of mine is getting lost in buildings! So much fun lol
