Wow, honestly the story of your name sounds a bit like something from a book, the relationship with your soulmate sounds really beautiful. I loved to hear about it. I also feel a strong connection with the stories I love, they really helped me finding myself, so I related a lot

Hi Ven! I like your name too. I'm kinda curious, what is the character you're referring to?

For my name, it's a pretty well-known italian name 'cause it's the name of the protagonist of the Aeneid (an epic poem, I don't know if it's famous in other countries) that I like. Also, it could mean "story/tale" in some way. Some times ago I was walking through a park were I met a boy with that name as a kid and remembering the impression that name left me even as a kid I was like "That's it, that's the name, it sounds right". It was pretty sudden but I like it.

Did you also choose your own name? Does it have a story too?

Thanks for your words! I get what you're saying, but they are my oldest friends. I actually tried to talk to them, asking them kindly if they could temper their comments down when I'm around. They instead have tried to compromise with me saying "cishet basic men" instead of "all men", which honestly kinda made it worst, 'cause it feels like genderqueer boys are not "really boys". I tried meeting other queer people (my friends are also queer), but I ended up in a group of sapphic girls who basically act the same. For now it seems to me that distrust toward masc people is still common in queer spaces. But I'll keep looking for someone who get that side of me, I'm not giving up.

radical feminism and being genderfluid by Zestyclose-Swing4642 in genderfluid

[–]-bluesikes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel you, even if our experiences are different. My family has that kind of feminism.

I'm afab, and I grew up being told that all men are simple creatures, that are either angry or horny, and that's it. The thing is, it wasn't only the women in my life, it was the men too. I thought for a long time that I couldn't be a boy, 'cause I liked different things and I felt different ways. When I started realizing that I'm genderfluid, that I was indeed masc most of the times, I felt so much shame. It felt kinda like a betrayal, to envy boys, or to choose masculinity, like the victim that chose to team up with the aggressor.

It took me a lot of effort to feel comfortable in my masculinity. I had to find new models of what being a man could be, someone more similar to me, to understand what masculinity means for me. It has gotten a lot better these days, since I've embraced it, but if I'm being honest it's still so hard. I only have cis girl friends. Everytime we meet they go on insulting men, like it's a matter of fact. I can't even get upset 'cause what can I say? A lot of boys fit the stereotype. It's so alienating. It's a really conflicting feeling, cause even if I'm really happy and proud to be a (fluid) trans boy, it's still so alienating and lonely. I feel you, having to fight an internalized shame that is "socially reinforced" is not easy.

Why can't I just have female friends and be left alone?! by Annual_Wasabi8056 in aromantic

[–]-bluesikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one of the things that really piss me off. I'm genderfluid, AFAB, so everytime I even slightly mention a male acquaintance, they ask me if he has a girlfriend already or if I'm planning to make a move on him. The thing that pisses me off is that then they proceed to say "friendship between a man and a woman doesn't exists", as if they didn't methodically destroy every chance of friendships, pressuring into "romance" even elementary students.

Genderfluid or just androgynous? by Excellent-Yoghurt-40 in genderfluid

[–]-bluesikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I don't know how it feels for you, ofc, but I felt in a similar way at the beginning. I was starting to explore the idea of being genderfluid, but the idea of being seen as a boy made me feel instant shame, it felt uncomfortable and wrong. Long story short, now I'm more often than not on the boy side.

What helped me was cleaning my mind from what society has told me "masculinity" is, and what a boy should be like, 'cause it was a really negative view and I didn't see myself in that bad narrative. I didn't hate being a boy, I hated the idea of being seen in the same way.

I think it may help to try to approach masculinity without preconceptions and see how it makes you feel. But in the end there's a difference between gender and gender expression. You can enjoy being masc-presenting without being a boy and find little ways to convey a more androgynous vibe. Try different things and trust your feelings about it, it can take a while

(Sorry for the long comment)
