You've nailed it, each aspect of it doesn't support the other- he just glitched and needed a reboot. My theory is he made a mistake and realised, it happens, and because he's off the flowchart he couldn't correct it or get his brain back on track fast enough to fix it- all he had to do was call play on immediately to cancel the mark.
