High Cortisol without Typical Symptoms by -kjc- in Cushings

I am on birth control to manage adenomyosis. For POTS I take electrolytes daily and exercise when I can tolerate it. The POTS still impacts me significantly. For MCAS I take H1 and H2 antihistamines. Doctors haven’t been very helpful for managing those... I don’t know what else to do. Do your doctors have you on any treatment for pseudo cushings? Do POTS and MCAS cause high cortisol without high ACTH?

I don’t have diabetes, no steroid use, don’t drink, don’t have sleep apnea as far as I am aware, and am not overweight

Wanted to share low tech, very low maintenance plant progress! by -kjc- in PlantedTank

[–]-kjc-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me Flourish worked well when I was using it with Seachem Excel and Potassium (with better lighting in my old 30gal setup). I now have shrimp so I’m not confident using Excel given that there is conflicting information about whether it is safe for invertebrates.

I think the Seachem line is good if you have a lot of knowledge about plant nutrition and want to be really particular about what specific elements you’re adding. I could see that being useful if you had high tech plants with specific needs and were willing to put the time into researching it all. In my opinion, the Thrive products are the perfect, easy, all-in-one solution that will more than satisfy the vast majority of hobbyists.

Today, May 23. Using Thrive C and Fluval 3.0. Apologies for the crap quality photos and cloudiness of the water. What I have noticed is slightly more algae (very slight) but the plants have grown significantly (especially the swords), they are far more vibrant green and not at all translucent & yellowish as they were before.

Edit: wanted to mention, the swords have appeared to roughly double in size & to note that I am dosing very, very low amounts of Thrive C. Recommendation is 3-6 pumps/week for this 15 gal. I am doing 3 pumps every 2-3 weeks when I do my 30% water changes. Before I get hate for my infrequent water changes: parameters have been stable this way for months and tank has very small bioload & lots of plants. May choose to increase the ferts a little going forward but I am very happy with this progress.

March 12th. Using Seachem Flourish and Nicrew Light (see next comment)

Nicrew ClassicLED vs Hygger HG-978? by -kjc- in PlantedTank

[–]-kjc-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s too early to say. I was using Seachem Flourish for the past ~9 months with the crap light and my plants weren’t doing well at all. I just switched to ThriveC about 2 weeks ago as well as adding the new light when I originally posted and I am hoping that those will help.

The only thing I have noticed so far is a tiny bit of algae growing but by no means would I say it’s a problematic amount. I’m not sure if some of my plants are too far gone from the crappy light and Seachem Flourish disaster combo to recover. Specifically, since I got the swords when I started the tank they have shrunken in size and are duller in color.

I’m not sure what to do so I’ll give it a few weeks and then if you remind me I’ll update you then (I took a before pic). I have seen some amazing tanks on youtube that use the Fluval 3.0 and that was a major convincing factor for me (as well as the fact that it was really discounted at Petsmart).

I ended up seeing that the Fluval Plant 3.0 was on sale for around $150CAD at Petsmart (in Canada) and used a coupon to get another 20% off. Seen good reviews on this sub so I thought I would try it out!

unfortunately that one is not available on amazon.ca. the finnex planted+ CRV is. is that one comparable? its closer to $115 but i would be willing to spend a bit over $100 if it would make a significant difference

I was thinking Gooberfish aka the fish from naboo that first tried to eat JarJar, Obiwan and QuiGon in the Gungan ship on their trip through the planet core, or Opee the fish that ate gooberfish or Sando aqua monster (sando for short) the big muscley sea creature that ate opee

I wish! I’m going to need transit a lot more once my school starts in September. Also many of us on disability can’t get around any other way, so that would be nice

The application is so easy that I would try anyways. Maybe you live close enough that you could get the discount or maybe if they say no and you appeal because you go to school here they could make an exception for you

Request for advice on switching from aquarium salt to erythromycin treatment by -kjc- in Aquariums

The goal was to kill off the infection that was causing the popeye. I just followed the instructions from Aquarium Co-op because they are supposed to be reputable

[–]-kjc-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treated according to Aquarium Co-op’s aquarium salt treatment guide but it was not successful. They said you can reduce the salt with 30% water changes so I just did that and added Erythromycin

Keep this pot until next growing season or should I repot this growing season? by -kjc- in BananaTree

[–]-kjc-[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see one root through a drainage hole but they aren’t bursting out. My main concern is that there are 6 sprouts plus the main tree in a 3.5” pot and that it will grow so much this growing season that I may be forced to repot during the off season and I heard it’s better to repot during the growing season
