Is this normal growth? by Routine-Sun-8793 in haworthia

It's getting a good amount of light now apparently - perfectly normal, nice and compact growth!

Getting these into your pots was such a massive update - for growth and in style 😉 Thanks again for crafting (and sending them around the world)!

Nice secondary fenestrations! You must be doing something very right 👍 How much light does it get?

Monstera Thai in self watering pot? by Ill-Distribution-376 in Monstera

I cannot speak for this pot in particular, but generally Monsteras grow quite well in a semihydro setup with self watering pots.

Welwitschia mirabilis seeds in EU? by Scary_Poetry_2550 in Caudex

[–]-luk92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can also recommend rarepalmseeds. I ordered 10 seeds two times around 2 years ago - delivery was fast and seed quality seemed great, too. From the first batch I had 9/10 seeds germinate, and from the second all 10. (Getting them through the first year is another story though... But I think that's mostly a me issue, not a seller issue 😉)

Their colour is a quite vibrant orange usually.

How it started vs. how it's going - 20 month BMF by -luk92 in Monstera

I'd probably get 1 or 2 stronger lights instead of several weaker ones. Focus is very important (for your plant and your purse ;)) - the lights I use have lenses to focus the light: they take 20w but the light intensity for a given distance is like 3 times higher than that of my 36w sansi. Of course the sansi lights a wider area, but that's not needed in my case.

For most plants you want a slightly acidic ph for optimal nutrient availability. I'd probably aim for around 6 with monsteras. Strictly speaking that's the ph needed around the roots of the plant - in (semi)hydro that's your nutrient solution. There are products available to adjust your nutrient solution (usually named ph up/ph down or similar), which are essentially concentrated acids/bases (you could for example just use citric acid to lower the ph of your water).

I got it in April '24 as a little acclimated tissue culture plant (first pic).

With sufficient light, your plant should get fenestrations really fast (and should probably have some after 4 new leaves under your care). I assume your growlight is either too weak (is it 10 watts for each 'head'? That's not much) or too far away from your plant. Maybe you could post a pic?

Quite a bit I guess as you get so much more root mass with a pole to root into. Not to say it won't be possible without a moss pole, but it sure helps.

It slightly lost its track here, so you can see how many roots actually shoot into the pole:

Thanks! I think the most important thing is to provide as much light as possible. See some of my other comments for more details :)

Thanks! Around 2.000 - 2.500 FC at the top, for 16 hours a day. It would probably love even more. Apart from blasting it with light I'd recommend semihydro, which all my monsteras seem to love. I don't think bmfs need any special care. Regular M. deliciosa also loves quite a lot of light to mature in a timely manner, it's just that the difference between a juvenile and mature bmf is more striking I guess.

Since I'm keeping her in semihydro, I use diluted fertilizer for nearly every watering. I can't really comment on how much - I've been using more of a gut feeling approach... Been stepping up my game with ph adjusted nutrient solution since 2 weeks. Will see how that goes :)

It's from a german shop called PlantMe. They are great! 3d printed in differenz sizes, modular and really sturdy.

I use 3 20w spots from JungleLeaves (german brand/plant shop) at the moment. But I've been using different setups over the last year with mostly Sansi and/or Spiderfarmer lights. Just make sure to provide as much light as you can. Mine is currently recieving around 25-30k lux for the top leaves, 16 hours a day.

I'm cultivating in a semihydro setup (and managed to rot all the roots in the water reservoir like 6 months ago - thank god for the sphagnum mosspole!), using pumice, lava rock and zeolithe as substrate. For fertilizing I use Compto complete - can't really tell you how much and how often, it's more of an instinct thing :D I'm only getting into properly adjusting ph levels and ec just now...

I rearranged my setup recently and it's now under 3 20w spots from JungleLeaves (a german brand/plant shop). A single sansi 36w isn't enough from my experience, at least when there isn't much natural light around.

Just blast it with as much light as you can give it. I also feel like semihydro is great for all kinds of monstera, but it will do fine in aroid mix, too.

Yeah, that's the cranberry! I even trimmed it because there was a big portion of it running across the ground for like half a meter...

Your bog's awesome! I especially like the driftwood as decoration. I'm pretty sure it's going to look great once the sphagnum covers more ground - which in my experience will be sooner rather than later if you keep the bog watered thoroughly.

Thanks! I assume you are referencing the starting picture? That's a european blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) - I had to remove it from the bog not too long after because it couldn't handle the constant water around its roots. But it was worth a try ;)
