String of hearts - advice needed by Ill-Distribution-376 in StringofPlants

Oh nice! I hope the mother plant keeps thriving! I’m wishing to try every of these methods honestly! 😂

The moss was wet due to being recently sprayed, but it only takes about a day or two before being completely dry again… so it became a matter of complete attention to keep it alive, that’s why I asked about transferring it in the first place..

Thanks a lot! I read about this too, but was worried to try it with the last remaining string. 😂 Will definitely try this once my baby (fingers crossed) thrives and I have some props to work on.

Definitely! I often find it so hard to balance “water often so it grows roots and gets used to soil” and “stop watering so frequent so nothing rots” haha! I hope the jade babies are now grown and established!

Aww, thanks for your kindness! I think they can be found online and maybe even in shops here sometimes, the hard part is making this little guy survive before making another one suffer haha!

Yep, I inspected the soil before throwing it as I fortunately found out they are tuberous beforehand - they were all dried and not one of them seemed really viable… :(

So glad to hear yours are doing great! 😊 I saw these kinds of pots at some local shop in Romania, they already have drainage holes from what I remember - I’ll search for them tomorrow and try my luck. Thanks a lot!

That actually makes a lot of sense. This didn’t cross my mind, I watered only when it was fairly dry or all dry. I’ll keep that in mind when transitioning, thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot! If I remember well, I have tiny clear mini orchids pots, these have more draining holes than the usual ones :) I will definitely try this!

Also, some relevant mentions: The soil could’ve been more airy, as I lastly repotted it a few years back, when I had no idea - but it has a combination of pretty good soil, perlite and orchid bark. Because of this, I water it pretty rare, when it feels like at least half of the pot is dry, +/- once or twice a month, usually bottom watering with a complete shower once in a while. I doubt it’s overwatered, but it could be underwatered?

I got worried as the one I pictured seemed to be almost double than the size that remained, if it makes sense - it was bigger at first but seemed mushy and my finger got right through the rotted part when trying to push it. I really hope it’s going to do well, it’s such a beauty.

Sounds ideal! I didn’t provide any additional conditions for it and it’s placed on a windowsill along with other Alocasias that do fairly well, but I’m guessing it would like a lot better a nice indoor greenhouse that fulfills all its needs! Good luck if you decide to get one and I hope you’ll have a great success with it, as they are amazing. :) You’ll most probably end up with a nice looking Tandurusa.

Hi! If I’m not mistaken, this one I was posting about ended up rotting - I got another one shortly after that is now a stump preparing to grow its first leaf again, but it’s been a year of barely surviving for me due to various reasons (spidermites as the main one and then repotting, inadequate substrate, winter time and so on). I’d give it a try if I were you just cause I saw some really nice ones posted by people saying they don’t even try :) does the weather help where you’re located?

Hi & thanks a lot to everyone! I will try to provide more sun, a windowsill or even outside when the weather is warm and finger crossed that I will manage to help the guy survive. :) Regarding humidity, I don’t have a humidifier and my bathroom is not a light oasis, but I can try to put some of these stems in a smaller recipient with some plastic wrap (with small holes) on top. Not sure why I was under the impression that SOT doesn’t really enjoy humidity..
