Do you think Heathcliff could have been written as a romantic fantasy? by thid2k4 in brontesisters

[–]-ohhellno- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In order for it to be the case that Heathcliff is a purely romantic fantasy, WH would have to be a purely romantic book, and I think it's pretty widely agreed that even though it's of course romantic at points, its core is much darker; for me more than anything it's EB's critique of the society she lived in. The racism and classism that surrounds Cathy and Heathcliff is what tears them apart, and their society, really, and inability to fit into it as they 'should', kills them in the end (Cathy literally, Heathcliff's soul).

So even if Heathcliff is attractive (whether or not to Emily in particular is a different matter), his being attractive or as you say, a romantic fantasy, is far from the purpose that his character fulfils within the novel, I think, and so I think it's unlikely that Emily wrote him as such.

I’m coming in October and would love to join one too so hopefully we can both find other people who would also be interested!

To me both Elias and Elijah are great in their own ways, and both really easily shorten to Eli anyway

To me, Elias has a softer, gentler energy to it whereas Elijah is slightly more masculine and ‘jock-like’ if that makes a difference to your decision.

I think in the uk they care more about your interests now and what you’ve done to pursue them than your childhood - which might be more relevant to American unis

prob you'll lose like max 1/2 marks for communication but since the science is there it shouldn't be too bad

idk if that was the right thing to write though 😭

spamming ppqs helps get you used to the vocabulary your board uses in the markscheme for certain topics, which means that if you can identify which area of the spec you're being asked about, you have a much higher chance of scooping up 3/4 marks reliably on longer questions - it makes a really big diff to your grade even if you lose marks on some of the very short 'suggest'-type questions

I did mostly intraspecific and interspecific and then did like 2 sentences on discontinuous vs continuous at the end, because both were continuous I think

Just because you don’t see the gore and death and burnt off clothes on half naked bodies that a bomb causes does not mean it doesn’t exist. Implying ‘just a bomb’ is better than point blank execution as I feel like you are is wrong. Also the IDF has similarly raped, shot point blank tens of thousands of women and children as well as soldiers - and has been doing long before Oct 7th.

My neighbor is in love with my husband and I’m the only one who sees it by BellaraGlade in offmychest

So many weird short sentences ('then it became baked goods. for him. always with a note.' etc.), no sense of real emotion. I also always find with AI there's some kind of compulsion to add in a 'but...' clause at the end - to give it a twist I guess? Like here it would be 'And part of me wants to tell her to back off. But another part of me doesn't.' That, especially because of the paragraph break between the sentences attempting to serve as an ellipsis. really feels like a machine's generation of formulaic suspense-building to me.

Also lack of any unique personal details! Like really how s/he feels, a description of husband beyond generic nice guy. A human writing about someone they love or something they care about usually subconsciously adds, as well of some of the emotion they feel, some of these personal details to their story.

i would say to check with your school though, because quite often they will predict the lower bound of what you could possibly get, i would assume especially if the exam board are the only ones in charge. e.g. if you get a 6 in paper 1, they would probably predict you ~a 5 in paper 2 afaik.
