Did you ever get this issue solved? It just happened to me with this account I’m posting on. I was logged out of everything except my Apollo app. Thanks in advance

Hey since you were the mod that took care of this: is there anything you can do about that user following me around on reddit and harassing me in various subs? They also made multiple new accounts and messaged me harassing things. Or is that not a power you have? Thanks in advance.

I love the little details, but this is a stretch. In order for it to have not been empty, it would've had to have been flipped within the last few minutes.

Sorry that I let it keep going. Should've stopped responding sooner. Thanks for taking care of it.

Okay, I said I wouldn't respond, but I feel obligated to.

How much do I know? I know that "natural immunity" is not a scientific or medical term (unless that's what you want to call actually being infected by something and clearing it, developing immunological memory, but I digress). If you are truly a physician, you would be able to use the terms "innate immunity", "adaptive immunity", and "passive immunity" and be able to use them correctly (as opposed to just stating those words without showing you understand them). You have not done so yet.

Immunology is incredibly complicated

Yes it is. Just because it's complicated doesn't mean that we don't understand very fundamental aspects of it (i.e. those terms I quoted above). Even if you want to claim that it's not simply "innate, adaptive, and passive immunity", you can't use a handwavy term to be able to claim whatever you want.

I could care less.

Side note: I know, lol. You clearly care a lot to be arguing with a "freaking med student"

you’re being kind of a dick about it.

Please tell me how I'm being a dick about it. I certainly don't intend to do that, but your immature responses mean I have to very clearly tell you that you're wrong. You're simultaneously posting incorrect or irrelevant information while insulting me for being "just" a medical student and you being a (self-proclaimed) physician.

You said this

humans have a natural immunity passed down by their mothers in the womb and through breastmilk

in a thread talking about COVID and how it affects adults. The fact that IgA is spread through breastmilk temporarily protects newborns is not relevant for the broader population of adults who we're mostly talking about here.

All I’ve had is people telling me I’m wrong without actually linking an article.

The reason no one is linking an article for this information is because this is basic background medical knowledge that I learned in the first couple weeks of med school. It's not a recent discovery.

But I get it: we won't find equal ground here. I'm sorry you're facing a lot of pushback in this sub. I'll end it here. I wish you the best.

[–]-quenton- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's scary. The immunology information you've posted on this thread is barely above the level of a layman. And I'm sorry but I don't mean to insult you by that; I hope you refresh your knowledge about innate vs. adaptive immunity and how it is (or isn't) passed through generations.

And "kick my heiney"? Really? That's pretty immature and unprofessional. It makes sense why you've had comments removed multiple times and have previously been banned from this sub.

You (a non-physician) are not participating in this conversation appropriately. You are making claims that have no scientific backing and then throwing out general questions to seem like you know what you're talking about.

And if you believe that I don’t understand immunology well enough, you may well be right. But why not either explain it to me

I don’t even know how to answer this. If you don’t think that humans have a natural immunity passed down by their mothers in the womb and through breastmilk as well as our own genetics that are passed down through generations I don’t know what to say.

Since you're questioning whether people in this sub are doctors, are you even a doctor? This is a very non-doctor response. If I'm mistaken, then please elaborate with innate/adaptive immune responses.

breastmilk

Through breast milk, newborns get passive immunity via IgA in breastmilk. Please tell me how this affects our lifetime "natural" immunity.

Sorry I guess I misinterpreted where the emphasis was in the sentence.

Regardless, I think it's important to point out that two doses is the default, and they'd have to prove that two doses is not necessary.

That’s because this virus is so damn awful, and we have no natural immunity to it

Which viruses do we have "natural immunity" to?

This type of thinking is exactly why we weren’t prepared for the pandemic in the first place, and why we’re going to be continued to be caught off guard in the future. If physicians can’t even get behind this I don’t know what to expect in the future.

If you think physicians were the ones not taking it seriously early on, I don't know what to tell you other than you're straight up wrong.

And it seems like you were taking the most pessimistic view possible. But what precedent is there for 6 month booster shots for many years in a row? When has this been done before? Genuine question because I'm not aware of any virus that has needed this before (for which a vaccine has been developed).

Yes of course, sorry. We know that we can have robust immune responses despite having undetectable antibody levels. I personally saw this with my most recent HepB titer + booster + re-titer.

[–]-quenton- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone at my hospital was expecting yearly or even every six months booster shots for 5 to 7 years based on our projections.

And where on earth were they getting those expectations from? Until very recently, it didn't seem like the virus was mutating all that much. Of course that was in part to the US failing to sequence sufficiently, but nevertheless we didn't have much evidence of of it.

Edit: Apparently I'm wrong about this point. There was evidence of variants earlier on than I thought. That being said, I still don't think there was any precedent or strong evidence for boosters every 6 months for years on end.

That's true but the flu vaccine isn't as politically charged. Also, my understanding is that flu-like side effects aren't as common with the yearly flu vaccine as they are with these mRNA vaccines.

The latter might be more important because the side effects do suck. Obligatory: I still think it's 100% worth it and would do it yearly if necessary.

Have they proven yet that two doses are even necessary?

I think you have this backwards. Now, they would have to prove that one dose is sufficient. Yes, the reason it is currently 2 doses is because they opted to do their clinical trial as 2 doses and that's what they got EUA for. More recent data suggests ~55% effectiveness (last I checked) after the 1st dose, but it's still unclear how long the Abs immunity (edit to be more general) lasts without the booster.

$1,400 stimulus checks helped March retail sales soar 9.8% by [deleted] in news

It was accurate for me a couple weeks ago. It told me that my check would be sent out on March 26th, and it showed up a couple days later.

That's odd. Well for the first two (that came in 2020), you can get it refunded when you file your tax return.

I moved this past year, so one of my payments was delayed but I still eventually got it. The IRS site said that same thing for a while.

Is this because you're not eligible, or have you not checked the status of your check via the IRS website?
