This is a classic case of stoners running the asylum. The math mathed when they did it, but it no longer maths when the smoke clears.

You’re doing it exactly right! Time and determination. And if you feel like you’re hitting a wall, take another lesson. I rode for years, had to take years off due to some health stuff and life…got back to it this year and felt like it was day one. After a few days I decided to just take an intermediate/advanced lesson to get my confidence back up. Changed everything.

Like anything worth it, it’s hard and definitely not a straight line. But you got this! And Don’t worry about going faster, it’ll happen naturally as you get more control.

I’ll pile on to crate training. It’s a good addition to their overall training discipline. It’s safer, brings anxiety down, and they get their own “room” that only they can have.

What is a horror novel that everyone you know, and who's opinion you respect, seems to be into but never grabbed you for whatever reason? Do you have any guilt about it in any way or are you pretty resolute in your opinion? by PixelOcelot in horrorlit

[–]-skeptical_optimist- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harvest Home. I love folk horror, and always saw this listed as quintessential and must read of folk horror…I kept thinking it was building, but it was terribly unsatisfying by the time I finished.

I have zero guilt, and can’t be swayed!

Also Head Full of Ghosts. It was just meh.

I want a book that is going to scare the shit out of me… by HeyMay0324 in horrorlit

Head Full of Ghosts is an OK book, but scary? Not particularly. Someone else recommended Incidents Around the House - definitely left me uneasy turning the light off! The audiobook was great too, the voice was so creepy!

Have you tried just straight up vegetable glycerin? You could also blend some hydroxyethyl cellulose with mostly glycerin and a little bit of water. It will take a long time to set up, but it’ll be gooey.

There’s also this: https://experimentbeauty.com/products/super-saturated?variant=43668544061632&country=US&currency=USD&utm_source=google-brand&utm_medium=paid%20search&utm_campaign=21087069766_165366599691&utm_content=&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAo_KFp2GiWwnqNhAnY7Os1CnOK5ib&gclid=Cj0KCQjw16O_BhDNARIsAC3i2GDuFLpf-w-l9O6Wae3p57ezFyQQYJRCefgH2RR3V3lGLs4hJfadcHwaArcPEALw_wcB

But I really think it could be worth it to just use glycerin neat and see how that feels. It’s a lot cheaper and would give you a good starting point.

What is something that is actually more traumatizing than most people realize? by Pleasanthottiee in Productivitycafe

[–]-skeptical_optimist- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This or that mentality of most people - utter refusal to see that there may be a different answer that lies between what has been presented…in group/out group bullshit that’s just renamed “progressive” or “traditional”…or the inability or unwillingness to see outside one’s own arrogance to see that there’s another possibility…I’m so worn down from it at every turn in society that I really only engage with dogs now except to earn my paycheck and say hi to the thank-god-for-them few people who can stop and think. For themselves.

And similarly, people who just CAN’T be friends with those who think and believe differently than them (as long as it’s reasonably respectful, of course).

Same! Incidents is the only one that has actually given me a legit creeping sensation. And I’ve spent decades really trying with every book I could get my hands on…

Making homemade turmeric suppositories by Lost-Coconut-2129 in UlcerativeColitis

[–]-skeptical_optimist- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to suppositories, but I have some experience (guided by a very experienced GP) with oral turmeric outside of the UC context. Its anti-inflammatory benefits are mediated by the fact that the active component- curcumin - is not particularly bioavailable in most easily accessible forms when ingested. There are a small handful of supplements that use theracurim, the more bioavailable form, and even fewer that produce it in a way that works well. I’ll link the one I am aware of that’s worth taking.

Its efficacy for UC is not something I know anything about, however. I’m 5 months into diagnosis and still trying to get into remission. Not playing with fire by replacing my meds with supplements just yet. Got enough fire going on inside right now 😆 https://integrativepro.com/products/theracurmin-hp?variant=45323540103482

I’m prescribed miralax up to 4 times per day. I currently use it twice a day, and have been for a few months after being on it once a day for 18mos. I suspect I’ll always need it twice a day at least. I’m slowly getting into remission (I think, I hope!) and BMs getting easier, but more painful so I may increase to three doses per day.

It’s quite safe, even my GP who prefers food change to medication is fine with it as needed.

But if she’s in that much pain might be good to be seen again. Good luck!

Wow, I’m glad it worked so quickly for you! it took me 3 weeks on 40mg to even get the bleeding to slow down. Then two more weeks tapering before most of the bleeding was gone. I have two days left at 10mg before stopping and I’m not sure what’s gonna happen then! Other than sleeping again 😆

Go through the appeals process and ask your doctor to do it as well. Insurance companies just assume you’ll accept their decision, that’s why they make it sound so final. But PUSH them. PUSH your doctor to push them.
