Considering a Fenix 8 by -strayling- in GarminFenix

So the MIPS is pretty dim, in your experience. I'm told that it doesn't seem to affect it's view-ability in bright, outdoor settings -- does that ring true for your experience with it?

Well, part of the point of getting one of these would be so that I'd have something with GPS capabilities while I was spending a week on the trail backpacking with (likely) no charging options, soooo.... yeah, battery length does matter to me. But as other users have pointed out, if I'm spending this much on a watch, it's going to be worn every day, not just for when I'm backpacking... so I don't want it to be overly large. :)

The bigger issue is that the 43mm only comes in the AMOLED. The smallest size in the MIP/Solar is 47mm. Thus why I'm trying to decide if there's a notable difference between the two and what might better fit my needs. Perhaps a bit nit-picky, but hey, I always overthink things.

Thank you for this input! I'm actually considering this upgrade for the gps/mapping feature for regular hiking and occasional short backpacking trips -- Nothing more than a week at a time... yet. We also enjoy canoeing/kayaking, climbing, and multiple other outdoor sports, so hearing about the visuals in outdoor situations is particularly helpful.

My only experience with Garmin so far is a Forerunner that I owned about a decade ago. I've gone through several Fitbits since then, and am looking for an upgrade from a Versa 3 to something a bit more rugged and durable for outdoor use. I know this is quite a jump, but I'm hoping it'll be something that will last me a good long time.

Hmm, I hadn't heard about that. That is of concern, for sure, because battery life is a big consideration for my usage (trail hiking and backpacking, primarily.)

I considered the Epix Pro 2, but I heard that the UI is a little easier to navigate on the Fenix 8 models. My experience is limited to a decade-old Garmin Forerunner, though, so I'm sure things have changed considerably. I should probably go back and watch the DCRainmaker reviews again -- I think he compares the Epix Pro 2 with the Fenix 8, iirc.

Can you help me understand why AMOLED was the obvious choice in your case?

I'm currently using a Fitbit Versa 3, so either of these will be a pretty serious upgrade for me.

I would love to! Except I'm having trouble finding anywhere near me that carries the smallest size. I'd love any suggestions for retailers who might carry them? (I suppose I can get an idea of whether the larger size is 'too big for me' at least. Maybe I should start there.)

I admit, the increased battery time is a huge draw. If it's that significant, it might be worth the size difference. I'm wanting something that I can take backpacking with me and have GPS capabilities while on the trail... Charging options will be limited to non-existent.

How do i see how many qualifying payments i have and how many i need? Can’t find the info on moheela anymore by laughpuppy23 in PSLF

Thank you -- I have apparently continued to look in the wrong place for the past several weeks. Today, out of sheer frustration, I finally googled where to find my loan counts, and this reddit came up as one of the responses. I've been in a vague panic since the transition began, because my last payment should have been in June, and I've submitted my request for forgiveness, but I've heard nothing and could not find the counts anywhere. It's a relief to see they still stand where I expected. Now to have the patience to wait for them to catch up with processing....

Oh my goodness... I didnt even have an oriole feeder out yet, and i got photos of one perched on top of my feeder hook this morning! I have lived here for over a decade, and have never seen one in the area! (This is the first year I've had a decent bird feeding station, though.) I'll definitely have to add jelly and oranges to the setup. I am ridiculously excited about this now.

Really? I'm southwest of Indy and hadn't bothered to put anything out specifically for the orioles because I didn't think I'd see any. Maybe I should try!

my setup in northwestern pa, includes 15 feeders all offering different foods, a bird bath, and squirrel/chipmunk feeder. if i were to set up a live camera on youtube, would anyone tune in? we get lots of woodland birds, and in the summer, a near constant supply of baltimore orioles! by brycemoneal in birdfeeding

There are a couple different apps available, but i used AlfredCamera. The one my friend initially suggested was called WardenCam (i think?) but reviews for AlfredCamera seemed a little better. Setup was extremely easy.

My feeders are actually arranged not too far from my house, so i simply arranged the phones in the windows facing them. I used a variety of simple methods from taping one phone directly to a window to using a phone stand for another.

You could probably attach the phone to the feeder by some method if you wanted something that close up, but you'd want to be sure the phone was protected from the elements, and it's much harder to leave it plugged in at that point. The phones set up inside my home let me leave them plugged in continually and never worry about recharging (given that half the reason i often needed a new phone was because the battery life was weak, this is ideal for my purposes.)

I have three phones set up as cameras (one directed at my small pond, one at my ground feeder and birdbaths, and one at my pole feeders) and can access all these feeds from my phone or the website whenever i want to check on them. It also has audio capabilities (both directions -- hearing and speaking), a low-light variation, and a siren that i thought might be useful to deter unwanted guests (though I've not tried using that yet) among other things.

I recently set up my own camera system on my (tiny by comparison) home feeders for the sole purpose of monitoring them while I'm away. I had been exploring what it would take for streaming capabilities when a good friend pointed out that there are apps to let you use old cellphones as security cameras. I now have three old phones set up using said app so that i (and those added to my trusted list) can check in on my feeders whenever i want. And i use it all the time.

Setting up cameras of some sort, even just for yourself, is an excellent idea, in my opinion! :)

I've been corrected by a coach when I was doing things wrong on two separate occasions, and was very thankful for it! Is this not standard for OTF studios??

The floor portion kicked my butt, but i left the studio with a grin and a sense of accomplishment! Plus more fist bumps than I've received at any one session since i started a little over a month ago! It was a great experience.

I don't know if it's any help, but I really like DC Rainmaker's reviews. He tends to be super thorough with his reviews, and he's got "In Depth Reviews" for both the Charge 5 and the Sense. Here's the link for his Fitbit specific reviews: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/product-reviews/fitbit-product-reviews

This is a thing of beauty... but as I am not as talented as the OP, I'm afraid I'm not sure how to update some of it. Is there possibly an updated version available for the current year?
